    In this study, economic value of public library service was measured by contingent valuation method (CVM). In the questionnaire, respondents were asked to state their willingness to pay (WTP) for lending a book and an admission to the library. In result, WTP values concentrated on round figure like 100 yen or 50 yen. Moreover, the amount of benefit of library services was aggregated by four different methodologies, and each result was compared. Furthermore, cost-benefit analysis was applied to all of the libraries in the municipality under investigation, and then measurement of benefit was sufficient for justifying their library material budget.
