This study described the relationships between the attributes of universities and university library collections with a focus on the number of book pages. In this analysis, we considered the viewpoint of university students as the primary users of university libraries, and examined the following attributes as perceived by university students: establishment types, deviation values, and locations. We divided universities into groups based on each attribute, and compared the book titles held by each group. Focusing on the number of book pages, which is rarely considered in analyses of university library collections, we analysed their descriptive statistics and histograms. We selected four academic fields (i.e. economics, natural science, literature and engineering), and described the characteristics of each attribute while comparing the results of our analyses by field. We targeted a total of 251 schools and 334,594 titles from these four fields. Among the characteristics common to the four fields, we found that the results of our analysis of establishment types showed that the mean and median numbers for book pages in the book titles held by public universities were greater than those for national and private universities. In addition, the distribution of book titles held by public universities tended to lean toward having a greater number of book pages than that of national and private universities.
