In this presentation, I introduce the KACHINA CUBE Ver.3 that is a 3D web-system. By using KC, we can plot data into a cubic-information-viewer that is consisted by map and arbitrary axis, and see the detail of each data when we click certain fragment-icon. Because of this, not only we can grasp whole image of curtain database but also can read intensively one data. Furthermore, I look at academic significance of KC from the standpoint of information design focusing on the multivariate value visualization and the nesting structure.

In this study, the example of the public parking sign of 25 institutions was taken up and classified about the function or the design. The result of having compared the example of overseas and Japan, It turned out that the sign of the public parking in the overseas public parking was thinking rationality and functionality as important and the public parking in Japan is thinking the service to a user as important.

In this research, definition of “
Kosei” in “
Kosei educational publications” or “
Kosei Kyoiku” from 1932 to 1935 has been examined.
While being defined as composition, it was also introduced as “
Zuan Kosei” and it was considered as a new type of education. Although, “
Zuan” is tied with life and acts as an abstract motif, but the concept of “Pattern” or “
Kosei of Pattern” has also been used in “
Kosei Kyoiku”.
It was concluded that today’s definition of “
Kosei” in design’s basic education is very close to the abstract concept of beauty used at the start.

A Kurosatsuma, a kind of antique pot decorated with arabesque patterns, was investigated from the viewpoint of structural dynamics. We aimed at making clear whether or not the arabesque patterns on the pot had structural significance. The Kurosatsuma was measured using a 3D digitizer to obtain 3D CADdata of the shape. The CAD data was modified to represent that of an undecorated Kurosatsuma to examine the structural effect of the decorative patterns. As a result, we confirmed that the patterns seemed to relax the stress concentrations that were induced by gravity in the body of the Kurosatsuma.

In this study, I describe Pendulum Pattern generated rules by mathematical principle modeling based on theories of non-linear dynamical systems. As a result I comfirmed the following. (1)Based on "branch" and "synchronization", the elucidation of the generation process of Pendulum Patterns is possible. (2)There is a possibility that two form generative systems are contained in the generation process of Pendulum Patterns.

But, the name of "OkuraReisyo" has low profile and there are almost no detailed data and references which indicated it. So, in this research, historical changes of Banknote design explain how "OkuraReisyo" has been playing the important role in the design of Japanese Banknote as a traditional type face.

Recognition of time for adults can be described as a "circular ring-type" understanding, for preschool aged children it can be assumed to be "irregular dotted line type" understanding. In this way recognition of time is different so communication discrepancy occurs between young children and adults. This recognition difference creates circumstances where the children cannot achieve the behavior desired by caregivers. According to questionnaire results, behavior of young children can be classified into “transitional” and "completed". This study analyzes the types of transitional and completed behaviors desired by caregivers and proposes a product test to use a sound emitting product to share the recognition of time passage among adults and preschool aged children.

Toward elucidating the effect of sketching skills in product design, in previous research, we proposed a structural model of sketching skills representing the relations between sketching skills. This study aimed to utilize the structural model of sketching skills to elucidate the sketching skills that influence both rough sketches and idea sketches. For this purpose, rough sketches and idea sketches were subjected to discriminant analysis. The results showed that the two forms of sketch are distinguished based on the sketching skills related to feature representation of shape in rough sketching and those related to the exact expression of shape in idea sketching.

Value Growth Design enables an object to increase its value over time, and is based on a new design paradigm, Timeaxis Design. Timeaxis Design incorporates the viewpoint of time into the theory and methodology of design. However, only a few works have considered the application of Value Growth Design to actual artifacts. Herein, we investigate existing Value Growth Design cases, and employ cluster analysis based on the Multispace Design Model and the Value Growth Model. As a result, patterns of value growth are revealed. Furthermore, by applying perspectives proposed to be effective, we extract nine principal factors of value growth.

Application of computer algorithms in design is getting popular nowadays. Since it enables generation of complex and nonlinear characteristics with ease, so many algorithms from computer science are adopted for the purpose. In this paper, we pose a consideration on the methodology, through interpretation of algorithm as formal language. This argument is aimed to set up an asymptotic connection between the methodology and design language. Beginning with a simple algorithm, linguistic speculations will be applied and finally a generative model of algorithm in the sense of C. Peirce will be posed.

How to design a product in the time for the model change is important for manufacturing industries. This is because improper changing of design may make regular users of previous model not buy the next model. This is a study on transition of form and the effect on the model change of the product, that is what kind of transition brings about a good result or bad one. For example, which changes of the corner roundness on the next model do consumer like better, smaller or bigger one compared with the previous one? In this study, the results are derived by rough set theory and products elected as the examples of model change are compact digital cameras.

This paper presents a novel shape of grips for general purpose by using a concave-polyhedral shape, an origami. The shape was derived by the study of buckling of cylindrical shell. Its’ surface is consisted with the tessellation of a hexagonal pattern which is folded along its center. With this design, the mild but effective concavity in comparison with conventional design can be obtained. The shape also provides the constancy of circumference along the axis of the grip.

The Great East Japan Earthquake occurred and brought serious damage on the Tohoku district on March 11, 2011. We attended the volunteer activity in Miyagi, and found that there are the communication barriers between volunteer participants and non-participants. We designed the information sharing system using smart phone which provides information and improves communication between volunteer participants and non-participants to reduce the uneasiness of the volunteers. In this research, we performed a volunteer activity, questionnaire in a stricken area, and analyzed the needs of volunteers. Then we made the prototype system, performed user experiment and evaluation for operability and usefulness.

This research is a proposal of the interactive digital signage by pointing operation of using the shadow which assumed large public space like large-sized shopping mall. It attracts attention visually by projecting artificial shadows on the wall using a projector and Kinect. And it creates extending shadows according to the motion of users. By doing so, this design proposal develops the interface which many people can operate intuitively. This research validated by evaluation experiment using the prototype interface whether this system utilizing a Kinect and the quality of shadow could exploit effectively as digital signage. As a result, it was able to make entertainment by giving advertisement interactive elements.

This research is a design study of interactive signage in the real world-oriented some, in a store of commercial facilities such as shopping malls, operating intuitively display information of digital signage by moving pick up the goods on display. We propose the signage system for product advertising to detect the inclination of products lifted, equipped with a real-world-oriented interface to move the graphic block-like with its slope. In this study, the product is a running shoe.

In late years, the digital camera is combined for technological change and continues developing a new product. However, that do not meet the utility value of the user enough. The situation to utilize a photo by the spread of smartphones changes. In this study, many functions were intended to investigate usability from a user viewpoint about the digital camera which became diverseness. This research pay attention to the difference of an elderly people, the young people and performed an apparatus evaluation. The hypothesis , the camera was easy to use in the young was different from elderly was supported.

As information equipment becomes multi-functional, an easy-to-use interface is demanded. Particularly, interface design that can be operated intuitively is strongly required. Therefore, we have re-examined it from the point of view of familiarity and organization along the flow of execution of user behavior proposed by D.A.Norman for the design method. Based on them, we have classified into four types of interfaces after presenting patterns that combines the operation and recognition. As a result, we have clarified the characteristics and requirements of intuitive interface which is the methodological framework of product design. In addition, we have presented the design guidelines.
