In order to clarify the actual working conditions of the small coastal cargo boats, the authors attempted to study their principal particulars by means of statistical method. Data of more than 2,172 ships were treated by the hole sort card system. The results are shown in Figs. 1∼12 and Table 1, in which histograms and mutual relations of gross tonnage, principal dimensions, ratio of principal dimension and horsepower are described sucessively.

The outstanding characteristic of conveyers in the process of main assembling is to make the process smooth and reinforced. And good management of that one depends much on how to keep its balance and rhythm. From this point of view, we should find out the factors which will disturb them. We have investigated, so far, our equipments, designs, processes and works to serve that purpose, but in this paper, we would like to try to consider, practically, how to bring about or realize the introduction of Tact System and Q. C.'s activity effectively.

The points of this paper are as follows ; 1) Adopting the tact system to the hull erection stage. In this case, the tact system means the production control based on the detailed program. 2) To serve the above-mentioned purpose, the fundamental program and detailed one are to be formed. The former decides and makes sure the process and schedule of works, such as fitting, welding and so on. The latter, the best arrangements of facilities to carry out the fundamental programs on crane, working and welding machine.

Development of mould loft settings was regarded as one of the techniques of highest level in shipbuilding. Various kinds of geometrical and instrumental methods were properly used according to the types of curved surface to be developed. Recently, with the aid of digital computers, some arithmetical methods have been adopted as an application of electronic data processing system to the conventional geometrical development. However, they are not always considered to have the necessary accuracy and sufficient universality in practice. It is essentially recognized that development on a digital computer is to be performed by solving the differential equations obtained on the infinitesimal portions of curved surface to be developed. Based on this standpoint, the authors have contrived a lot of mathematical methods to develop curved hull structures by means of a digital computer, and have organized these for practical use in hull production design. Among the organized developing methods now in common use, developing curved shell plating is as described in this paper.

It has been so far said that the installation of piping system should be carried out at an early stage of hull building schedule for cost reduction of outfitting work. Notwithstand such concept, the contribution to improvement of piping technique including design and manufacture has not always been practiced due to labour curtailment. Accordingly, introduction of digital compters is actively considered as a powerful tool for the rationalization of piping technique. Hitachi Zosen has developed a software for numerically controlling system to piping technique, and has succeeded in mechanization of hull piping application drawing, i. e. installation drawing, piece drawing, complete with a list of erection materials. The system is frame-worked from the most practical point of view, and the details are described in this paper.

As already pointed out in the 2nd report (I), transverse bulkheads have predominant effect on the natural frequencies of the lower modes of torsional vibration of a bar with thin-walled open cross section. This paper deals theoretically with the effect of transverse bulkheads on the natural torsional frequencies of a bar of thin-walled open cross section with two axes of symmetry by the matrix method. The theoretical result shows that the effect of transverse bulkheads on the natural torsional frequencies ressembles the effect of torsional rigidity GJ, and the effect of transverse bulkheads can be treated by the use of the equivalent torsional rigidity GJ. This conclusion is found to be applicable also to a bar of open cross section with one axis of symmetry, and the accuracy of this method is confirmed to be satisfactory by the experimental results of model tests.
