Kawasaki Dockyard Co., Ltd, has constructed the Sakaide Shipyard (Sakaide, Kagawa Pref.) with a building dock of 350,000 DWT for past two years. The new shipyard went into operation for the first ship in April 1967. The layout of the facilities for hull construction is as shown in Fig. 1, and the characteristics of them are as follows; (1) The dimensions of the building dock are 380 m in length and 62 m in breadth. (2) Pre-erection stage shall be placed between the assembly and erection stages. The grand assemblies connected in this stage shall be loaded by two sets of goliath cranes of capacity 200 tons each. (3) The fabrication shop, assembly shop and building dock are arranged in a straight line, and the outfitting shops and wharf are located in parallel to the building dock.

This report introduces a control method of the feed water pump. As the kind of the control of the feed water pump, there are 1) control of pump speed, 2) pump delivery pressure, 3) the pressure difference between pump delivery and boiler drum, 4) the difference pressure between outlet and inlet of the feed water control valve, and 5) direct control of feed water pump by feed water control signal. This last control method is early used in practice for the control of auxiliary boiler and weir's type feed water pump. In spite of the fact that the plant efficiency should be improved by the adoption of this control system, it has been not adopted to main boiler. It may be considered that the reason for this is that there was an anxiety in the stability of feed water control signl or response of pneumatic governor. We chose best machinery in cooperation with each manufacture by the careful study on the said points, and fitted a feed water control valve and a constant discharge pressure governor on the pump side for an emergency use. As the results there was no trouble of hunting of the feed pump governor and the response of feed water control system about which we were anxious and it was proved that this control system can be sufficiently reliable.

It is a conventional way to make manually heat calculation of marine exhaust gas economizer, including selection of heat transfer rate. However, manual way prohibits the correctness of the calculation due to enormous number of data such as exhaust gas output from main engine functionized by room temperature, cooling sea water temperature, engine powers, heat transfer rate indexed from the tube dimension and its arrangement, etc. For the same reason, analysis of evaporation test results is very difficult to be carried out up to the utmost completeness. Confirmation of the economizer capacity, especially of its heat transfer rate, can not be made sufficiently. Recently we had the first opportunity to make an analysis of the actual results of an economizer capacity and we made a calculation program for electronic computer. Here we should like to explain the outline of the program. Another program for design of exhaust gas economizer is now in hand, which will be presented in another chance in future.

The deformation of plate produced at the process of corrugation makes it difficult to prepare smooth butts for a preassembly consisting of corrugated Plates. It was confirmed experimentally and theoretically that the deformation of Plate was caused by residual stresses produced during gas cutting of Plate edes. Low temperature stress releasing was conducted in various ways to reduce the residual stresses before corrugation. The results of the experiments show that the low temperature stress releasing is quite effective to reduce the residual stresses and, eventually, the deformation of the plate.

Based on Lerbs' lifting-line theory, the study of optimum propellers was conducted by applying the variation principle. Numerical calculation was performed and the results were compared with those which were obtained with approximate Betz' condition simplified by Lerbs.
