ジャーナル フリーIn search of a ball throwing technique for bowling perfect game, the quality engineering approach was used to determine a robust technique that would not depend on the lane condition. Noise factors such as the dynamic friction coefficient of the lane which the bowler cannot control, and control factors which the bowler can control, were selected; appropriate throwing levels were found by quality engineering; and these appropriate levels were adopted as a set of basic levels. The basic levels can then be tuned on the basis of pocket and pin action heuristics to derive the optimal throwing trajectory. Strikes can be obtained by maintaining the optimal trajectory while tuning only the speed of the ball to deal with factors that the bowler cannot control, such as the dynamic friction of the lane.抄録全体を表示PDF形式でダウンロード (8398K)

ジャーナル フリーUniversities strive to develop their students’ abilities to solve problems as well as actually make things. One laboratory teaching method we use is a contest in which students make water rockets, use quality engineering to find their optimal parameters, and compete to see whose rocket can fly the farthest. Factor analysis is a standard method of solving problems, but the students frequently fail to find factors because they lack sufficient technical knowledge. We therefore teach our students the Taguchi approach so that they can learn to set design parameters in a way that is easy for them to understand. When the air resistance of the rocket is taken into consideration, we discovered that the ideal functional relation between flight distance and compressed air pressure is a direct proportional relation. When the compressed air pressure is within the parameter setting range, we found that flight distance robustly follows the predicted value.抄録全体を表示PDF形式でダウンロード (1241K)
