    In this paper, various methods to evaluate the friction function of plastic materials were discussed and the following equation was concluded to be the best for evaluation: y=βM* where y is the friction force, β is a constant and M* is the load. A reciprocating friction tester was designed and developed to optimize the evaluation method. Using the above function and the device, a low friction and low wear polyacetal resin was developed using an L18 orthogonal array in the experiment. After optimization, about 6 decibel gain on friction was obtained without affecting friction property. ln the life test, a gear from the new material showed a 50% durability improvement over current commercial products.

    In the manufacturing of dry developers for copy machines and printers,lt is important that colorants and charge control agents are homogeneously dispersed and strongly bound together with binding resins. Traditionally,these properties have been evaluated either by the quality of the finished products or by the quality characteristics of the copied image,although the properties are heavily related to the operating conditions in the earlier manufacturing stages,namely,the material mixing process and the kneading process. In this report,the relation between stress and strain was measured from samples prepared after mixing and kneading processes to evaluate the dispersion and binding force of materials. As a result,we have successfully developed the manufacturing technology improved the product quality.

    There are four sub-systems in the digital printer. These sub-systems have the following functions: 1. Optical scanning of a document, and conversion of the data to electric signals. 2. Supplying power to heating elements. 3. Formation of images on a thermo-plastic resin film by puncturing using heat. 4. Supplying ink to the punched portions to form images. This paper shows the application of Quality Engineering on the optimization of ink prescription for the fourth module of digital printer. ln the fourth module, the pattern on the stencil paper for platemaking is transcribed to an image pattern. Such results were analyzed and then evaluated.

    Urea adducting is a method to separate oils from their mixture. In some cases,the separation conducted in the laboratory scale is not quite efficient. Parameter design was applied to optimeize the separation process using S/N ratio of omega transformation. The experiment was conducted to apply the Quality Engineering on the education program in the University. From the experiment, the separation efficiency was improved and it was conducted that this is a good practice for the students to understand the concept of Urea adducting.
