Mitsui-Bibai Colliery is an enterprise covered Nippon Oil Co.'s Koju area and Mitsui Mining Co.'s Bibai area, the former being worked since 1923, but the lattervirgin field. By the consolidation of these areas, entry could be located at the most suitable site, resulting to, bring the greater part of coal seams above adit level and to lay out capital most efficiently. This agreement made five years ago affords a valuable example to investigate rationalized amalgamation of colliery workings.
To arrange for the production of 600, 000 tons per year, developing the annexed coal field, double adit levels 2, 300m. long were started in June, 1929 and reached to coal seam in may, 1931.
All the main roads were driven in the rock and coal is hauled through these roads by 8 tons electric locomotives. The capacity of tub is 2 tons.
The mining system in long wall with chain conveyor.
This installation is one of the modern colliery equipments in Japan.

In this paper, author explains the topic under the following items:-
    (1) The characteristics on the Japanese copper plants, (2) Copper production and market price, (3) Copper metallurgy at large, (4) The metallurgy of the Japanese copper plants, (5) Future improvement and the central smelting plan, (6) Man's power and applause for engineers. He puts the weight especially on the oxidizing smelting since its start, the pyritic smelting in blast furnace, the skilful tuyere handling with the dust' coal application, the success of the small basic converter, the rapid smelting with the high heat efficiency, the utilization of pyrite as fuel, acid and iron sources, and the central smelting plan. He lastly emphasizes about man's power, extending to the duty of engineers, with high appreciation on the ability of them.
