This paper is an attempt to clarify what kind of ‘subject’ we are formed by a fearful progress of ‘surveillance socialization’ in today society. In so doing, Foucault's theory, that formulated surveillance as a strategy or technology of ‘assujettissement’ by ‘Pouvoir’ (Power) or ‘Bio-pouvoir’ (Bio-power), is be used as a clue of analysis.
Currently, it can be pointed out that the way of surveillance is shifting from ‘Panopticon’ to ‘Dataveillance’ (data + surveillance) and then to ‘Pan-Opticon’ (the situation as all people is watching others and also watched by others). And it is also stated that ‘subject’ formed by surveillance is transformed by this shifting. That transformation is from ‘Discipline subject’ to ‘Risk-prevention subject’ and to ‘Self-care subject’. So, we are formed as ‘Self-care subject’ in the situation of ‘Pan-Opticon’.
‘Self-care’ means controling ours ‘data-image’ obeyed by ‘criteria’ grown from big data. But, it is different from Foucault's ‘souci de soi’, owing to it is operated in relation with ‘self’ as ‘data-image’. ‘Self-care’ can become the problem peculiar to today society, because it be demanded by ‘Pan-Opticon’ between ‘anonymous somebody’ (Sartre's ‘on’). Therefore, the current surveillance society should be thought by this perspective.
