The sample brines were made by concentration of untreated sea water and of treated one free from Ca and Mg, and viscosity of these was measured by Ostwald viscosimeter. Under the same density, viscosity of treated brine was 20-30% lower than that of untreated. Heat transfer coefficient of the brine (U
calc) was calculated from the obtained viscosity. Assuming no boiling and film-condensation U
calc was half of odserved value (U
obs) obtained by Y. Shimizu and T. Konishi, and in the case of boiling and drop-weise-condensation U
calc was5-20% higher than U
obs·U
calc of treated brine was 1-2% higher than that of untreated. Temperature distribution was calculated. The relation between viscosity and brine concentration was discussed.
