As descrived on the previous paper, the authors succeeded to prepare Mg (OH)
2 for compounding material of rubber with the same transparency as basic magnesium carbonate, however recognized a remarkable defect that such a transparent rubber product was less stable than with basic magnesium carbonate and suggested surface treatment as a method for improving this defect.
Now the surface treatment with soap has been carring on and get the following results.
(1) The weight of Mg(OH)
2 increased in the flow of wet CO
2 gas, but showed little change in the flow of dry CO
2 gas and also in steam at room temperature.
(2) The weight of soap necessary for surface treatment was recogniyed about 0.05 gr per 1gr of basic magnesium carbonate either from settling test or from calcuration of surface area.
(3) In the case of Mg(OH)
2 for compounding material of transparent rubber, this weight would be 0.085gr by each method.
