The risk is evaluated as multiplication among socioeconomic value exposed to risk events, a frequency of risk events and vulnerability (socioeconomic-technological responses), which depends on time and place. We calculate 1-km grid square statistics of physical exposures in about 380,000 grids over Japan for four cases: population in 2010, firms and workers in 2012, and travelers in 2013. The exposed values and the frequencies of risky events are estimated from government statistics data and NOAA Tsunami catalog data by using a statistical inference method. We assumed a generalized Pareto distribution to infer the frequency of tsunami run-up events and estimated its parameters in each 1-km grid square from run-up events close to the grid square. Assuming that the vulnerability is set as 1 (no responses to tsunami run-up events), we estimated physical exposures defined as multi- plication between an exposed value and a frequency in each 1-km grid square. We further applied our proposed method to evaluating tsunami risks of 3,916 airports used in international air transportation in 2014.

In this paper, the authors present methods to estimate respiratory function after lobectomy. Lobectomy is a common surgical care for lung cancers. By lobectomy, whole lung lobe containing cancer is resected. Although this causes low recidivation rate, there is risk to lead to low respiratory function after lobectomy because of deformation of bronchus. The set of the methods presented in this paper consists of a method to generate virtual post-operative CT images, a method to simulate air-flow in bronchus by computational fluid dynamics simulation, and a method to deform bronchus region for virtual stenting. Applying these method to clinical CT images, effectiveness of the methods was shown.

It is an important issue that elderly people spend their social life with something to do after retirement. First, a skill and motivation improvement model has been developed through the analysis of an amateur orchestra team in this research. Then, this model is discussed whether it could be applied to other cases of elderly people activities as “a value co-creation model” through case studies of successful examples.

3D printer makes innovation with the introduction of 3D printer technology in the manu- facturing field. This paper focuses on the possibility of 3D printer for the plastic wire company. For revealing the process and making discussion, we have to clear the 3D process through the way of the IDEF0. We also conducted the simulation according to situation of delivery, place, cost and time. From the analysis, we discuss the possibility of introducing the 3D printing technology to the real company.

The threat of cyber-attacks to industrial automation and control system network of social infrastructure has risen. In 2010, an epoch making malware Stuxnet was discovered. Stuxnet was developed to attack the controllers in Iran nuclear fuel factory and has succeeded to hinder the oper- ation for a long term. Even if the controllers were not connected to internet, they could be targets. Stuxnet ’s subspecies were already discovered. The necessity of cyber-security measures for indus- trial control systems network (ICSN) is now seriously recognized. However, effective cyber-security measures have not been installed to ICSN yet. Based on this background, this paper aims at visu- alization of tool investment effect and proposes a systematic design approach of protection systems against cyber-attacks for ICSN.

Global human resources development is becoming more and more important because of current emerging global business environment year by year. This research discusses the skill set, which is requested by current high school students to be a person who will succeed in global environment in the future. Comments are collected by the survey on the Internet from Japanese high school students in 2015. The question analyzed in this research is “What kind of skills are needed to be a person who will execute global activities in the future? What kind of education is necessary to attain these skills?”
1740 answers are analyzed using text quantitative analysis methods. We checked frequently used keywords and their relationships to understand the structure of students’ opinions. Additionally, we manually checked important phrases described in the answers. Then, we developed the structured 6 categories of skill set, which will help educating high school students to acquire global capabilities. On this scheme, students will also be able to measure their own global skill levels by themselves.

Science and technology (S&T) is the base of development in industry, region, country and human society. How to use S&T for economic, societal, cultural development and creation of innovation, and how to manage research and development (R&D) for national policy and corporate management have become one of the most important issues. It is necessary to encourage creativity, to promote effective research and efficient technology development and to form original system of innovation in harmony with human, society and nature. For this purpose, the Japan Society for Research Policy and Innovation Management investigate and theorize the essential properties of the R&D process and improve them in the practical process. The society will address“ basic knowledge system ”and“ accumulation of diverse practical knowledge ”broadly related to management of society and economics and relevant policy based on R&D and Innovation.
