The purpose of this study is to improve apparatus for the nerve conduction velocity measurement and to obtain more precise informaiton. In this study, we took the special quality of skin resistance into close consideration and developed the electric stimulus apparatus by applying a 0.2 msec fixed electric current rectangular wave pulse upon a 1 Hz triangle wave AC voltage in order to decrease a subject's pain and make an effective stimulus. In this method, even a low pulse voltage was able to make the nerves completely depolarize and the errors of the measurement became smaller by the fixed elecric current stimulus.The usefullnesses of this improved apparatus was investigated on nine subject's ulnar nerve and median nerve. The results were as follows : (1) Standard deviation of latency of the induced electromyogram by the improved method was smaller than that of the standard method. (2) The difference in the ulnar or median nerve conduction velocity value between the first time and the second time was less than ten percent in both methods. (3) The strength of the stimuli in the improved method ws not stronger than that of the standard methods, except in the case of one subject.
