It is important to select suitable packaging material for sterilization, cosidering not only for sterilization method, packing size compared to the substance to be sterilized, construction of the packaging material, certainly of the sterilization, but also for handling during disbursement and in its storage place. However; in our country there is no quality standard as packaging materials for sterilization application in Hospitals, the responsibility has been attributed to each facility to use the packaging materials. At this time, we measured the strength of nine kinds of sterilization bags in market, from the viewpoint of safety at handling. Film showed lower value in tensile strength compared to the ones from sterilization paper, elongation value for sterilization paper was 1.9〜8.2%, while the one for film was 57.7〜124.5% in machine direction, which showed durability. And strength of sterilization paper was deteriorated after steam sterilization with high pressure, but the one for film was increased to the country. As for perforation strength as an index for pin-hole, value of sterilization paper after sterilization was 451〜679g, and the value of film was 839〜1, 092g. After the material was heat-sealed under the same condition, the heat seal strength showed wide scattering on each sample in a range, 228〜6.25g, so manufactures will be required to advise suitable heat seal condition.
