Medicine must adopt aggressively the fruits of engineering development to make rapid progress in this century. We, in the medical field, should not be simple users of technology, but active designers to bring out the hidden seeds of the engineering sciences. An active designer is one who recognizes well the potential of engineering, discovers new contrivance, and sees new ways of use. We must also work to make medicine an attractive field of endeavour for engineers. Medicine is developing rapidly in technological complexity, and for this reason collaboration between medicine and engineering is vital. And through continuous communication, we can confirm the spirit of co-working, clarify mutual understanding, and achieve common concrete goals.
