We defined the temperature pattern set and the characteristic data of a pattern and the tree-root structure. In this paper, we would like to report the diagnostic method of the temperature pattern by means of fuzzy-expert method. An abnormal place of the temperature pattern appears near the heated or cooled point, particularly on the maximum contour line in each heated/cooled peak. According to fuzzy diagnostics based on the change of the characteristic data, we are able to estimate the conformation degree to the cause. We, although, put into practice using experimental data of a micom-board, the similar diagnostics will be expected in the medical fields. In consequence, it seems that the diagnostics based on fuzzy method is gentle and reasonable for processing of an expert.

In this article, we propose a document clustering method with Natural Language Processing and Self-Organizing Maps (SOM) on our Web based DBMS (Data Base Management System) for clinical cases. The system is implemented in Java language on the Internet server, and all documents of clinical cases in the database are written in Japanese. We tested the system ability to evaluate for the correct clustering of clinical cases, that each document has 30 attributes in an input-vector for SOM-learning. For the result of this ability test, it shows that 73.9% of clustering datasets are correct answers. Thus, it seems that our method is available to search the similar cases in the database.

Life-style related diseases is diagnosed for a great number of medical examination patients by medical specialist. However, since there are few medical specialists of medical examination, medical practitioners who have more or less special knowledge of life-style related diseases often diagnose patients. Therefore, there is need for support system that can understand special knowledge easily. In this paper, we propose a method of diagnosis support system construction for life-style related diseases based on the fuzzy theory that make possible induction of human consideration. This system consists of mainly both knowledge and reasoning divisions The knowledge division is constructed on knowledge date-base that decides abnormal degree of each examination item with knowledge of medical specialist and statistical analysis. The reasoning division consists of evaluation by using choquet integral with fuzzy measure and fuzzy inference. The present improvement suggestions for life-style related diseases are obtained from the execution result of this system that medical practitioners and patients can easily understand.

This paper discusses fuzzy reasoning method by Shu et al. in which the consequence B' for a fuzzy rule A⇒B and a given fuzzy input A' is inferred according to the spatial relationship of fuzzy sets A, A' and B. Especially, the multifold fuzzy reasoning is investigated, and the improvement method for the fuzzy reasoning method is proposed by introducing a scale factor as the parameters characterizing a fuzzy rule.

In the previous papers, we have proposed two fuzzy reasoning methods of distance-type fuzzy reasoning method and distance-type fuzzy reasoning method with truth value of proposition. To expand the proposed two fuzzy reasoning methods further, a new distance-type multi-fold and multi-stage fuzzy reasoning method is proposed in this paper. This fuzzy reasoning method holds main properties of the previous methods because this is an expansion of the methods. In addition, so-called the problems of explosion of fuzziness existing in the traditional multi-fold and multi-stage fuzzy reasoning method can be avoided thoroughly.

In this paper, we propose a technique for automatic extraction of liver regions and its volumetric measurement by computer employing a set of abdominal CT images of a patient. Given an initial point automatically on a liver area in a CT image, the technique extracts the entire liver region in the image by enlarging the area around the initial point iteratively referring to the original image. The volume is obtained from summing up the number of pixels contained in the liver areas in respective CT images. The technique was applied to eleven abdominal CT image sets (six normal cases and five abnormal cases) and satisfactory results were obtained.

The microstructures of human Sartorius muscles were investigated using a transmission electron microscope (TEM). The TEM microstructures of continuity and repeat of the myosin and the actin, and about ten nanometer-sized myofibrils were observed. A higher magnification of the myosin and the actin structures of the subjects who used to take exercise almost everyday revealed spiral structures of myosin and actin showing myosin-head like structures.
