Medical Staff in disaster medicine has important role of quality of life and lives for disaster victims. They also suffer from physical and mental burden in disaster damage of long-team and wide area. Important issue is medical staff who should lighten the work load in disaster area. The aim of this study is to examine a motivation and factors affecting to join the disaster relief activities. The authors distributed self-administered questionnaires to 156 nurses, and 152 of them responded, 88.8% of them wanted to participate in disaster relief activities with some conditions. Participation was difficult without receiving an order from their superior. Most nurses who participated in the disaster relief activities were on occupational duty. Our findings of this study clarified that information and knowledge for participating the disaster relief activities. Construction of the system is needed for nurses with highly motivation to participate disaster relief activities more easily.

In order to investigate the behavior of suspended particulate matter (SPM) in the 1/6 gravity (1/6 G) environment, simulated lunar dust was diffused in a chamber, realizing quasi 1/6 gravity environment with a parabolic flight. The effect of 1/6 G environment on the atmospheric suspension was evaluated by means of the cutoff value of an elutriator; the cutoff value in the 1/6 G should be √<6> times larger than at the earth's surface. As a result, we experimentally confirmed that the falling velocity of SPM in a 1/6G is approximated to Stokes' law, and the falling time is inversely proportional to the gravity. Numerical computation suggested that residual SPM in a convection-free room becomes high in a low gravity environment or in a high ceiling room. These results announced that, once the lunar dust intruded into the lunar bases, it would take much longer time to clean up. Since the suspension time of SPM is different by the particle size, the exposure risk of SPM will also be varied to the particle size. Considering the risk depends only on the drifting time, actual influence by the low-gravity will be nonsense on the fine particles (D_p ≤ 1.0 μm in diameter) and on the large particles (D_p > 10 μm) in a 1/6G. In contrast, for medium sized particles (2.5 < D_p ≤ 10 μm) the difference in the drifting time between that on the earth and on the lunar surface is much larger than can be confirmed with the senses. Safety precautions used for this size of particle on the earth should be altered on the lunar surface.

This study assessed the period taken for changes in dietary intake to exert the greatest influence on colorectal cancer (CRC) incidence in Japan. Using published data on dietary consumption of eight selected food groups (1965-2000) and age-standardized incidence rates of CRC (1975-2006), we constructed a causal multiple regression model for CRC with a 6- to 16-year lag time (every 2 years) between the time of intake and assessment of CRC incidence. The analyses showed that the patterns of the estimated effects of food group consumption varied with lag time, and suggested that there were positive contributions of animal fat, milk and dairy products, and potatoes, negative contributions of fish, legumes, green and yellow vegetables, and fruits, and no marked contribution of meat to CRC incidence.

In the modern society, damage of abuse of PINs (personal identification numbers) and passphrases will be recognized as social problem. One of these damages is a 'shoulder-surfing' attack on operating of bank ATMs to steal ATM users ' PINs. These snooping attacks to us must be opposed constantly for our safety. Not only bank ATM but also new mobile devices like a smart phone and tablet PC have to be consistently protected. In this article, we propose a rhythm authentication method using touch rhythms on the new devices such as smart phones and tablet PCs, and also we explain our analysis method with SOM (Self-Organizing Maps) as a suitable biometric authentication method. We experimented for three types of subjects - 1) the experienced person of the piano performance over 10 years, 2) students belong to department of information and computer sciences, and 3) the others - and we verified whether significant differences occurred. As the result, we obtained 99.2% precision in case of the experienced person of piano performance and then our method is simple, compact, and will be useful for smart devices also.

The information handled by occupational health physicians and nurses has diversified in recent years. In order to provide appropriate care following health checkup for workers according to their health condition, it is necessary to efficiently and effectively analyze the obtained data. In the present study, segmenting of health for workers with the objective of elucidating their health condition was conducted using three domains of information that could be obtained at the workplace. An anonymous self-report questionnaire survey was distributed to 439 workers at a contracted industrial health association. Survey items included basic attributes (month of birth, sex), overall result of health checkup, the Japanese version of K6, and the Team Communication Interfaces scale. A total of 262 individuals (93 males and 169females) provided complete responses. Data were analyzed using Kohonen's Self-Organizing Map, which is currently being applied in data mining and visualization of multidimensional data. Subjects were classified into nine groups. In the present study, workers were classified by their health condition and data were presented visually. The segmenting of health performed herein was considered useful for determining the overall health condition of workers and selecting subjects who required treatment.

According to the auditory filter theory, it has been known that the basilar membrane of the cochlea in the inner ear is, for example, modeled as a 24-channel filter array. Because the filter shape dynamically varies in response to an input sound or vibration, there is room for verification on our proposed acoustic model, in which a waveform with an one-octave passband is reconstructed by the linkage of sinusoidal curves between successive extrema. In this study for 1-h speech and music recordings, we have evaluated the effects of spectral bandwidths, interpolation curves, and the least-squares estimation of extrema, using the normalized squared-error between an original waveform and the reconstruction. Firstly, the difference errors for an one-octave waveform remain at less than 1.2 percent, compared with the narrower filtered waveforms. Secondly, the error of the sinusoidal interpolation is less than other five methods with transcendental functions, in agreement with our previous studies in terms of the subjective score as well as the objective quantification with event-related potentials. Thirdly, the original waveform is identical to the reconstruction with the extremal estimation below 2,560 Hz, but with leveling minima below mere 160 Hz, suggesting the conservation of the sound quality despite ambiguity in shape.

Recently, the research of the medical equipment has been developed and applied to the cognitive rehabilitation frequently. Modified Attention process training (M-APT) has been introduced as cognitive rehabilitation for the improvement of the attention function that is the base of the cognitive function. The reports say M-APT has improved not only the attention function, but also the motivation and the social extroversion. The author performed the activation training of the attention function of the cerebrovascular disease patients, and examined what influence the improvement of attention function gave to the language function, communication skills and the intelligent function. The author examined the cards classification problem in M-APT on eight cerebrovascular disease patients, and trail making test-A・B, standard language test of aphasia, the communication ADL test and mini-mental state examination were performed before and behind the cards classification problem. The results of each evaluation of the cards classification problem were analyzed in statistics.As a result, the attention function, the language function and communication skills have improved respectively before and after the attention activation training. The attention function is a base of all the cognitive ones. The improvement of the attention function has a great influence on the language function and communication skills were suggested.

In previous research a role-playing game(RPG) is represented with Markov decision processes(MDP). But active learning method for RPG has not been studied yet. In this research we propose an active learning method which maximizes an expected total reward with respect to a Bayes criterion under the condition that the true parameter of MDP is unknown. We recognize the effectiveness of our proposed method by some simulations.

The approach of the accessibility is necessary for all the people to be able to use the Internet. As the visual elements are very important factors in the Internet, in our previous study, the visibilities of young adults, the elderly and dichromatic vision persons were evaluated on white background using the simulation filters. In this report, we evaluated the visibilities between black background and 21 foreground colors, and developed the expression for visibility prediction by the multiple regression analysis using color brightness difference and color difference which was derived from RGB value. As the results, as is the case in the white background, the visibility was correlated with color difference. Moreover, it was shown that all group's visibility is judged high when the range for color brightness difference is 120.3 or more.

We have been studying and searching the comprehensive risk adjusters for human injuries in the case of falling, descent and glitch of intelligent machines, utilizing dummies (Hyb-III) in JARI. Finally we adopted the clinical indicator TRISS, which is composed of three types of risk adjustor - anatomic, physiological, and comorbid. And they can be easily combined so that information from all three sources is used to predict outcome. Notice that we can reach the level acceptable, TRISS > 0.980 if NISS < 4 and RTS > 7.8404. Because this score of TRISS is almost as large as maxTRIS = 0.9843 in the case of three largest AIS = (0,0,0). Thus, The level acceptable is both maxAIS1 or maxAIS0, and we decide maxAIS values by physical parameters.
