This study was to clarify the current state of communication among nursing students with elderly people with hearing loss and the challenges faced by nursing students. A survey was conducted among 112 third-year nursing students regarding their experiences communicating with elderly people with hearing loss, how to respond during communication, the difficulties they felt with elderly people with hearing loss, and their image of elderly people with hearing loss. As a result of analyzing 70 people (62.5% of effective answer rates), 33 people had experience communicating with them. In communication situations, “speak clearly”, “speak slowly”, “don't shout”, “speak loudly”, “speak and look the other person in the eyes”, “be considerate of the other person's hearing preferences”, They believed it was necessary to “show a sincere attitude that respects individuals,” and implemented the measures. However, elderly people with hearing loss found it difficult to “hear things wrong,” “give vague answers,” and “not be able to follow conversations.” Because of this sense of difficulty, students are expected to have a negative image of them. Therefore, it is necessary for students to learn appropriate communication skills for elderly people with hearing loss and eliminate their weaknesses.
