In this study, we surveyed 1,000 older adults in their 60s to 80s to clarify the actual circumstances of Internet literacy among them; furthermore, we investigated the effect of Internet literacy on their well-being. Results indicated variations in Internet literacy and efficacy and interest in using the Internet according to age groups and gender. Regarding the influence of Internet literacy on their well-being, we observed that increased Internet operation skills, troubleshooting skills, and provision of mutual aid on using the Internet increased their efficacy and interest in using the Internet. The older adults who received more mutual aid on the Internet exhibited lower efficacy and interest in using the Internet, while those with higher efficacy and interest in using the Internet exhibited improved well-being. These results suggest that well-being can be improved by promoting Internet literacy among older adults.

This study seeks to clarify the current state and problems faced in providing and utilizing information resources, such as books and materials, for career education in the libraries and career centers of Japanese public high schools. A questionnaire survey of persons-in-charge of school libraries (some of whom also handle career guidance) was conducted. The results reveal that persons-in-charge of school libraries emphasize providing students with information that broadens perspectives on ways to learn and live and on society. On the other hand, career centers seek to differentiate their services by providing specific information primarily to students who have already decided on their career path. The results also reveal that many persons-in-charge of school libraries felt a sense of unease in providing career education support. These findings point to the need for valuable information resources in school libraries and career centers to be managed in such a way that they can be maximally utilized for the benefit of students.

To reveal the factors that lead researchers to make their articles Open Access (OA) for the first time and the longitudinal changes in their perceptions towards OA, the authors conducted a secondary analysis of the responses from biennial questionnaire surveys by NISTEP carried out from 2016 to 2022. The results indicated that the main drivers for researchers to first adopt OA were external factors such as scholarly journal policies or affiliated institutional policies. Among the barriers to OA, it was suggested that addressing funding shortages and developing OA policies in scholarly journals and affiliated institutions could promote OA. Additionally, after researchers made their articles OA through external factors, they tended to develop internal drivers, such as the desire to contribute to OA movement.

Collaborative information retrieval has been conducted for a long time. On the other hand, the details of communication in the collaborative information retrieval behaviour process have not been clarified. Aiming to contribute to effective support for the collaborative information retrieval behaviour, this study tries to understand communication. Dialogue between 16 people in five groups working on a collaborative information retrieval behaviour task were analysed.

The results revealed that among the behaviours constituting collaborative information retrieval behaviour, communication between actors was particularly active in the behaviours that orientate the retrieval and task, such as the recognition of collaborative information needs, sharing of retrieval results and new information needs, and co-ordination of information retrieval behaviour. Furthermore, it was found that, in these behaviours, claims and questions are presented, as previous studies have suggested. In this study, it was revealed that claims and questions encompasses a variety of roles and functions that are indispensable for co-ordination and retrieval.

This paper focuses on the term of Medium and Mittel, expressing the reciprocity of ideas in the Kyoto School. Later in this paper clarifies the meaning of the Function Concept suggested by Masakazu Nakai. Concerning his viewpoint, the appearance of the library under the Function Concept is described. The meaning of the Function Concept is a concrete universal, considering the complex elements as a whole. However, there are two genealogies in the Kyoto School to understand the concrete universal. One is the concrete universal under a closed system called Medium. Nakai regarded the logic of Place from Kitaro Nishida as Medium, and he criticized that everything had been decided. Furthermore, since the characteristics of Medium can be found in Cassirer's Function Concept, Nakai suggests a concrete universal under an endless open system. Referring to the viewpoints of Kiyoshi Miki and Hajime Tanabe, Nakai envisioned a concrete universal as a system of Negative (purposiveness without a purpose) and Action.

The asset value of Japanese TV drama series is relatively lower than that of other countries in the global market. One of the root reasons for this is the "peculiarity of the audiovisual aspect," such as the fact that only Japanese people appear on the program. As a method to solve this issue, we can consider the adoption of the double-shooting method already used in the Latin American drama genre of telenovelas and the European macaroni-western. In this study, we produced video clips in multiple languages using the double-shooting method at the actual drama shooting site. To verify the effectiveness of this method, we conducted a questionnaire survey using the produced video clips. The results of this survey suggest that the double-shooting method is useful for Acquiring Global Viewers, but that it is important not to give a sense of discomfort to the actors' performances and the visual aspects such as the studio set, among other audiovisual peculiarities.

This study evaluates the relationship between academic conference presentations and academic journal papers on Japanese literary studies and Japanese linguistics. First, we found a publication rate (the percentage of conference presentations published as papers) of 41.5% among 685 relevant papers presented at the conferences of six major academic societies in 2010–2014. Next, we found a conference rate (the percentage of academic journal papers presented at academic conferences) of 58.5% among 571 relevant papers published in journals by the same six societies in 2010–2019. Integration and analysis of both datasets revealed sets of societies and journals with high publication and conference rates. The correlation coefficient between the two rates also confirmed a strong association. Consequently, it is important to distinguish between the “return type” (i.e., the conference organizer and journal editor are the same) and the “non- return type,” (i.e., there is no direct relationship between the conference and journal).
