Superfical change in eggs of the cabbage butterfly, Pieris rapae crucivora was observed after oviposition. The color of the vitelline membrane through the chorion changed from pale yellow to bright yellowish orange after oviposition. The vitelline membrane was separated from the chorion. After the mandible, the eyespot and the head were appeared, the egg began to hatch. The duration of egg stage could be classified into four stages. This result was discussed as a teaching material for the butterfly life cycle.
