AST Chiro Qi-gong (AST Qi-gong) has been reported about the effects on several diseases including cancer, hitherto. Authors tried to invetigate the effects of AST Qi-gong on the induction of apoptosis in gastro-intestinal cancers. There were three types of Qi-gong effects; the first was induction of apoptosis mainly, the second was induction of both the apoptosis and inhibiton of cell cycle, and the third was inhibition of cell cycle mainly. Although further study is indispensable for critical role of these mechanism, these observation suggested that the induction of the apoptosis was one of the therapeutic mechanism of AST Qi-gong against cancer.

AST Chiro Qi-gong (AST Qi-gong) has been reported about the effects on several diseases and tumors hitherto. However, its therapeutic mechanism has never been reported and never been well known. Authors tried to report the effects of AST Qi-gong on gastrointestinal cancers using histopathological study. Immunohistochemical examination showed the decrease of the expression of Ki-67 antigen and proliferating cell nuclear antigen in cancer tissues after AST Qi-gong therapy. These observation suggested that AST Qi-gong therapy induced the normal functional expression of cancer suppressor gene p53 which induces cancer cells into non-proliferative, quiescent, state.

AST Chiro Therapy was applied to a patient with dysphagia due to Wallenberg syndrome caused by lateral medullary infarction in addition to conventional physiotherapy. The patient became able to eat rice gruel and minced food by himself in ten weeks. Videofluorography taken before and after the treatment showed an improvement of the swallowing function. AST Chiro Therapy could be performed even in the early stage of convalescence requiring bed rest, when the routine physiotherapy was not indicated. Spasticity of the muscle of the neck in the affected side was successfully relieved by this early application, which enhanced the recovery of the swallowing. These results indicate that the AST Chiro Therapy is useful for the treatment of dysphagia. AST Chiro Therapy might be applicable to the rehabilitation of swallowing impairment, in combination with conventional physiotherapy.
