The magnetic moment of fcc-Fe was expected to be changed by controlling the lattice constant, since it has been suggested that the magnetic moment of Fe atoms in fcc-Fe depends on their interatomic distance. We investi-gated the molecularbeam epitaxy (MBE)-grown fcc-Fe sam-pies by fluorescenceextended X-ray absorption fine struc-ture (EXAFS). The lattice constants of the Fe layers in these samples were controlled by doping (or not doping) the buffer layers with Au or Ni. The results show that in all the samples there are two fcc-Fe phases: one having a longer bond length with a higher magnetic moment (about 2.4μ
B) and the other having shorter bond length with a lower magnetic moment (about 0μ
B). Since the volume ratio of these two phases was almost the same, the measured magnetic moment was 1.0μ
B for all the samples
