Extensive usage of fossil fuels is causing CO
2 emission increase and rapidly increasing the atmospheric CO
2 concentration which causes the global warming. The atmospheric CO
2 concentration should be stabilized at a low level to mitigate the global warming.
Herein, projections of the world population, economic growth, energy consumption and energy sources in 100 years, which affect the CO
2 emissions, are explained. CO
2 mitigation measures, especially, carbon capture and storage technologies which are considered to be necessarily implemented for a world based on fossil fuels are described.
