Antigenic analyses of
Hansenula holstii and
Hansenula matritensis were carried out by the slide agglutination method using monospecific or absorbed antisera, and the antigenic structures of these species were confirmed by reciprocal and successive absorptions and slide agglutination tests. H.
holstii possesses thermostable antigens 1, 2, 3, 13, 14 and 15, but no thermolabile antigens. H.
matritensis has thermostable antigens 1, 2, 3, 4, 9 and 14, while no thermolabile antigen. It is the perfect form of
Torulopsis globosa.
In comparative studies, the antigenic structures of several strains of various species within the genera
Hansenula and
Candida corresponded with each of the antigenic structures of species used for antigenic analyses. Therefore, the antigenic structures of the species in the genus
Hensenula can serve in the classification of the genus.
