If the rate of hydration of quick lime can be controled and the hydrated product has development of strength, the modified quick lime will be widely used as materials for civil engineering and building construction.
Then the rate of hydration of quick lime mixed with an inorganic fluosilicate was studied by hydration test and X-ray diffraction method.
From test results the following was obtained.
(1) The rate of hydration of quick lime can be controled by Na
2SiFNa
6, KSiFNa
6, or BaSiF6, that is, an inorganic fluosilicate which is sparingly soluble in water and which consists of fluosilicic acid and strong alkali, but cannot be controled by PbSiFNa
6·4H
2O, MnSiF
6·6H
2O etc., an inorganic fluosilicate which is soluble in water.
(2) The rate of hydration of quick lime mixed with Na
2SiFNa
6 etc. is more retarded by addition of alkali.
(3) The rate of hydration of quick lime mixed with PbSiF
6·4H
2O etc. can be controled by addition of alkali.
(4) By means of X-ray diffraction, it has turned out that the hydration of quick lime is retarded by sodium fluosilicate.
