A solid heat flow meter has been made for the purpose of measuring the heat transferred to any point by the heat radiation of flame in O.H. furnace and continuous heating furnace.
The heat detector of the solid heat flow meter is made of copper cylinder, 50mm in diameter and 10mm in thickness.
The temperature of the copper cylinder is measured with a C.A. thermocouple inserted into the center of the cylinder.
The time required to raise the temperature of the copper cylinder from the room temperature
t0 °C to the temperature
t °C is obtained with a stop watch and the transferred heat is calculated by the temperature difference and the time obtained with the watch.
This solid flow meter is simpler in construction and easier in handling compared with a water cooled heat flow meter. An actual few examples of measuring furnace temperature and transferred heat have been given in the last paragraph of this report.
