This paper proposes fast initial construction methods of the GBD-tree. GDB tree has proper characteristics for management of large amount of 2 or 3 dimensional data. However, the GBD-tree needs long initial construction time, because no bulk insertion method as for R-tree has been proposed for the GBD-tree. This paper proposes fast initial construction method. The method requires only limited size of work space. The experimental results show the initial construction time reduces into a third or a quarter of the one-by-one insertion method. The memory efficiency and retrieval efficiency are also improved than the one-by-one insertion method.

This study aims to analyze the easiness of location search on a map with different kinds of address indicatory systems. We experimentally compare the time for the subjects to search the locations of given addresses in a part of Seoul City between by lot number based system and by road based system.
The result shows that the address by lot number based system is recognized more easily than that by road based system taking into account the average number of choices in the whole process of location search. It would be because of the complexity of road pattern in Korea as well as in Japan.

In this study, the analysis system of evacuation action at the time of flood was developed using GIS. The system applied the network analysis which considers multiple refugees and shelters simultaneously and searches the shortest paths through the network links from halfway of the links. Moreover, the evacuation action was simulated in detail by linking network analysis and flood analysis. As a result, it was shown that the analysis system is applicable to plan suitable evacuation routes and shelters, and enlighten the residents on the importance of early evacuation.

Arc Hydro data model and tools are described in this paper, which emphasizes the importance of integrating GIS applications for consistency and uniformity in order to further develop environmental researches. Arc Hydro is utilized by many organizations engaged in water resources and water basin management in the United States. Data model structures, tool functions for basin analysis, and relationships between hydrologic / hydraulic simulations and GIS applications are explained. Arc Hydro case examples from municipal governments and university's research / development are described.
