In this paper, the School of knowledge science in JAIST (Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) is introduced as a successful example of transdisciplinary education and human resources development. Knowledge science is an important transdisciplinary science and technology for creating new knowledge which can solve various problems in the 21th century and is effective for giving solutions and creating future innovions.
I will describe the concept of “Project Learning,” conducted at Future University Hakodate, in the light of education of transdisciplinary talents.
I will first discuss transdisciplinarity and try to establish its methodology using a FNS diagram, which we developed as a tool to model the activities of synthesis. I will then introduce our education through Project Learning and its future plan. The key issue is the application of information technology to design new societal systems.
This document describes the discipline of the graduate school of System Design and Management, Keio University, established in 2008 for solving interdisciplinary problems. This discipline is based on systems engineering and design thinking. Students are not only engineers and natural scientists but also social scientists and sociologists. Age and nationality of students are widely distributed. The most important thing is that research and education are practical considering not only SEEDS of research but also NEEDS of society.
In this paper, we introduce our experiences of the transdisciplinary human resource development such as project based learning method, evaluation method, the blended learning system and the diploma supplement at Advanced Institute of Industrial Technology. We hope our experiences are useful information for transdisciplinary human resource development.
Leading graduate school program run in Keio University is introduced. The main stream of the society is changing and a paradigm shift forces us to leave from exiting leader reference. We are trying to establish how new leaders for the super mature society are developed in LGSP. Double degree system called M/M/D system together with various occasion to see the issues in the real world is a very promising way reach the final goal. The students are expected to have integrated ability with bird eye in this program.
In Japan most of communities lay undue emphasis on not abilities of persons but what they major in especially in undergraduate school. Even after graduating school the major subjects are considered to be meat and potatoes. We propose new scheme for educating graduate students who study minor subjects with collaboration of enterprises from interdisciplinary point of view.
Future Earth is a new research initiative for global sustainability with transdisciplinary approaches taken by engagement of stakeholders throughout the research processes, namely by co-design, co-production and co-delivery. Future Earth has a structure with Science Committee, Engagement Committee, Governing Council and the Secretariat. Permanent Secretariat was called for in 2013, and globally distributed, multi-national Secretariat has been proposed. Japan is involved both in global and regional secretariat, and is expected to lead the world both in research and secretariat role for Future Earth. Further discussions are encouraged among various stakeholders both domestically and internationally.
The Japan Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (JSIAM) was founded in 1990 as an interdisciplinary association for academic and industrial fields. The aim of JSIAM is to support cooperation between mathematics and the various fields of science and technology through our publications and communities.
