Disorganized visual information processing in Alzheimer's disease(AD) become most prominent when to copy a figure. In this study, we examined visuo-spatial function by the vision analyzer and magnetic sensor when copying a cube. The results showed that disorganized coordination of eye and head movement may interfere and make negative effect to constructional behavior in early stage in AD.

Miniature eye movement is characterized by it's complex waveform, small amplitude and unconsciousness. In previous research, it was suggested that it is highly possible that miniature eye movement is a kind of deterministic chaos. From this view point, the characteristics of miniature eye movements in Alzheimer patients are investigated. The correlation dimension is used as a fractal dimension and validity of total calculation data dependence and differences between experimental data and pseudo white noise are confirmed. Alzheimer patient data is also compared with that of healthy patients.

We have developed a new retinal camera which has a function of showing stable stimuli on the same position of the retina by feedbacks of eye movements and also has a function of taking retinal images at the same time. This system consists of two optic lines. First is for detecting eye movement and second is for taking retinal images and showing stimuli which uses a reverse route. The tracking characteristics of this system and some retinal images which have been recorded while a subject were following a moving stimulus are discussed.

In the coming Hi-Vision era, a large screen display will be commonly used in the home. When watching such a large display, head movement will increase as well as eye movement. The effect of aging on those movements will also become important as the number of elderly people is increasing. Here, we mainly discuss the effect of aging on peak head and peak eye velocity, and head and eye stability after having focused on the target. Both peak head and eye velocity were maintained in the aged, but their head and eye movement was less stable.

This paper theoretically clarifies that a Multi-Tandem Perceptron (MTP) transforms original samples to the dominant K-L transformed components. A R-stage MTP consists of R Unit-Perceptrons (UPs). Each UP is a 3-layerred linear perceptron with a hidden-unit for identity mapping. The hidden-unit of the r-th UP extracts the r-th component.

We analyze the influences of usage and ruled lines on characters to aid in creating a data base of unconstrained handwritten characters. Analysis of character size shows that the ruled lines have little influence. We found, however, that characters vary depending on their position (at the beginning or end of a sentence) and use (single character or idiom), so the quality of the data base is influenced by what part of a document we extract characters from.

In this paper we discuss problems of traditional stereopsis algorithms, and propose a novel stereopsis model. This model detects disparity on edge sites and, at the same time, interpolate between them. The interpolation algorithm is based on Gaussian Markov Random Field Model which makes MRF computation easy. An experiment result shows that this model extracts disparity even on no edge sites.

This paper describes that FD (frame-difference) is superior to LD (line-difference) as a V-T (vertical-temporal) helper signal in letter-box wide-aspect EDTV. The FD is durable to non-linear expansion and compression which would be used for supressing noise in transmission. In the system which the V-T and VH (high vertical-frequencies) are motion-adaptively switched and transmitted in mask portions, the FD is well matched with the VH because both spectra do not coexist in temporal frequency direction.

Television uses images from many sources, including video cameras, motion picture film, and still graphics. All proposed HDTV systems use one or more framestores in both the transmitter and receiver. This allows the characteristics of the source, channel, and display to be decoupled. Different transmission frame rates can be used for images with different origination frame rates. By sending a few bits of data describing the source, the TV channel can be used more efficiently. Many of the basic ideas described in this paper were developed by the Advanced Television Research Program at MIT.
