    Thefracturedsurfacewasexaminedfromtheviewpointofinterfacialchemistry,whenthebiodegradableadhesivecontainingricebranwasusedforwood.Whenpoly(lacticacid)wasusedthecohesivefailurewasmainlyobserved.Whenpoly(butylenessuccinateadipate)andpolj(caprolactone)wereused,theinterfacialfailurewasmainlyobserved.However,thestrengthofpolymeritselfwasconsideredtoplayaveryimportantroleintheadhesivestrengthofthisblendsystemfot、wood.Inthelandfilltest,thenumberofmicroorganismsaroundthetestpiecesincreasedconsiderablywithricebrancontent.Atthesametime,themolecularweightsofpolymersdecreasedwiththericebrancontent.Wecanconcludethatthericebrancontributeslargelytothebiodegradalionrateofthesepolymers.

    Inordertoanalyzethecuringprocessofurea-formaldehyde(UF)resin,thedynamicviscoelasticityand'''C-NMRspectraoftheUFresinsynthesizedundervariousconditionsweremeasured.Furthermore,theeffectofchemicalstructurechangesoftheUFresinontheformaldehydeemissionfromplywoodwasexamined・Theexperimentalresultsshowedthattherelativerigidity(G;/Go)oftheUFresinwasnearlyconstantinthetemperaturerangeofT,toT,.ItwasestimatedfromtheG//GovaluethatwhentheUFresinwassynthesizedwithhighformaldehyde/urea(F/U)molarratio,thecross-linkedstructurewasformedbytheliquid-to-rubbertransformationintheUFresin.WhentheUFresinwithhighF/Uratiowascuredat115℃,arelativelyhigheramountofdimethyleneetherbondandmethylolgroup,whichareeasilyhydrolyzed,andmethyleneglycolwerefoundinthecuredresins.Accordingly,itwassuggestedthattheamountofformaldehydeemissionfromtheplywoodincreasedalongwiththeincreaseofF/Uratioowingtotheformationofeasilyhydrolyzedfunctiongroupsandincludingmethyleneglycolinthegelledrubberresin.

    Cellophanewasplasmatreatedinethyleneatatmosphericpressure,fortheaimingofformingahydrophobicsurface・Contactangleswithdiiodomethane,glycerineandwatei、weremeasured,andsurface-freeenergyofsolidsurfaceswascalculated.FT-IRspecti、aweretakenforplasma-treatedcellophanes.Theamountofdepositionwascalculatedbyweightincreasebeforeandaftertheplasmatreatment・Surfacesofplasma-treatedcellophanewereobservedbyaSEM.Acellophanesurfacewaschangedfromhydrophilictohydrophobicbyplasmatreatment.FT-IRspectrasuggestedthattherewasdefinitequantityof-CH2CH2-and>C=0groupsonplasmatreatedcellophane.Theamountofdepositionincreasedwithanincreaseofethylenecontentinnitrogen,carbondioxideorargonmixedgas.FromtheresultsofSEMobservation,asubstancedepositedonsurfacesofcellophanetreatedbymixedgasesshowedtheshapeoffinethreadandthethreadswereentangledofthemselves.
