This article is to aim to investigate what the development of Japanese sericultural industry historically means for sericultural farm households.
1) The development of sericultural farm management made the human life beautiful and rich, through the cocoon production, raised labor produetiviry of the sericultural farm, and advanced the sericultural farm life.
2) By dissolving feudalism, forming new private landownership, and supporting filature development, the cocoon production by the sericultural farms was one of the fundamental forces by which Japan developed into an independent capitalist system.
3) But since the sericultural industry in Japan made progress in the development of capitalism and landownership, new problems were brewing. For example, the sericultural farm management needed to solve the low income problem to improve labor conditions and to make life much better, by conquering the high tenancy rent, the expioitation by the capital, and the friction of the world raw silkmarket.
4) Faced with these problems, some sericultural farm followed bitter fates. But historically speaking, some conditions under which these problems would be solved got gradually ripe. Through the reforms after the war, especially the dissolution of the big financial combines, the labor reform and the farmland reform, these problems were solved to some extent.
