To search the possibility of advanced applications for Japanese computer-readable business databases, an empirical study was performed by using the method of bibliometrics, i.e., statistical multi-aspected analysis. A typical industry/management information file, called JOINT (Journal of Industrial Titles), was selected as the source of material data. Five case studies, i.e., forecasting of economic situations, trade frictions among overseas countries, advertising and public relations, three large retailing group trends, and office automation were carefully examined.
