【Aim】This study is aimed to investigate whether it has relationship between nursing performance and occupational stress on psychiatric nurses, to get suggestion efficacy support for improving nursing performance of psychiatric nurses.

【Method】The participants were 56 psychiatric nurses. We investigated a demographic, and occupational stress using the Brief job stress questionnaire, nursing performance using the Self-Evaluation Scale of Oriented Problem Solving Behavior in Nursing Practice (OPSN).

【Results】The participants were 44.6±12.2 years old. Years of experience on psychiatric hospital of the subjects were 13.7±7.3 years. The 5 each mean score of subscale of OPSN were 18 points or over. Multiple regression analysis, showed that “satisfaction of job and life” and “depressed mood” and “qualitative burden of psychological work” were associated with OPSN.

【Discussion】The results suggested that nursing performance of veteran psychiatric nurses has related with reflecting on themselves nursing and satisfaction of job and life although hasn’t related with experimental years. Thus, to improve nursing performance on veteran psychiatric nurses, it is needed some supports that facilitate them feel the satisfaction against working, and that reduce the depressed mood via aiding them on insight to themselves nursing, and that educate them important sign on therapeutic interpersonal relationship.

【Purpose】To elucidate the factors relating to depressive state of the elderly needing support for daily life and utilizing the services based on the LongTerm Care Services Insurance Law.

【Methods】Subjects were the elderly living at one rural city located in the middle part of Hokkaido, Japan. They were certified as lower support levels (Grade 1 and Grade 2 of Needing support), using services based on the LongTerm Care Insurance Law. Interview survey with questionnaire was conducted from May to September, 2009. Effective responses were 33 persons using Home Help Service, and 45 persons using Day Service. Multiple linear regression analyses were carried out by using GDS5 value as the response variable for calculating standardized partial regression coefficient (β).

【Results】In the case of Home Help Service Users, effective variables were Physical Component Summary of SF8(β=0.37) and Index of Social Interaction (β=0.43). In the case of Day Service Users was not significant.

【Conclusion】These results suggest that different factors are related to the depression of the elderly utilizing the types of services.

Objective: The objective of this study is to verify the reliability and validity of the generally accepted work life balance (WLB) indexes for hospital nurses.

Method: A questionnaire survey was conducted with 1030 nursing staff working in 5 general hospitals in the Tokyo metropolitan area. The questionnaire comprised 24 questions related to demographic details and WLB indexes among nurses. We calculated the Cronbach alpha coefficient to examine the internal consistency, and performed a factor analysis to examine the construct validity.

Results:Response rate 77.5 %. With the factor analysis the following five factors were extracted: “managing behavior of head nurses”, “decision-making capacity”, “career development”, “organizational efforts”, and“job satisfaction and life satisfaction”. The Cronbach alpha coefficient of the overall scale was 0.91, and the coefficients for the various factors were 0.71 – 0.89.

Results: The WLB scale among hospital nurses consisted of 24 items for 5 factors, and the findings suggest the reliability and validity of the scale.
