〔Aims〕This study aims to clarify why clinical nurses aspire or do not aspire to become a nursing university faculty member.

〔Methods〕The study employed a qualitative descriptive research design and a semi-structured interview was conducted with 17 nursing university faculty members.

〔Results〕The responses of the nursing university faculty members regarding why clinical nurses do not aspire to become a nursing university faculty member were divided into four main categories: “Commitment to continuing being a clinical nurse,” “Vague recognition as a profession,” “Self-awareness of lack of qualifications,” and “Negative vocational image.” Alternatively, the reasons why they aspire to become a nursing university faculty member were divided into four main categories: “Expansion of horizons to non-clinical nurses,” “Clear recognition as a profession,” “Confidence in qualities,” and “Attractive vocational image.”

〔Conclusions〕The participants of this study did not aspire to a career as a nursing university faculty member for specific reasons. Learning experience and timing influenced each other. The career of a nursing university faculty member comprises several turning points.

〔Aims〕To elucidate the relationship between nursing students’ intention to work at home-visit nursing stations and their experience in home-visit nursing practicum.

〔Methods〕We conducted an anonymous self-administered online questionnaire survey of 387 fourth-year students at four nursing universities. After performing a simple tabulation, we examined the relationship among the students’ intention to work at home-visit nursing stations, their basic attributes, and their experiences in home-visit nursing practicum.

〔Results〕Valid responses were obtained from 102 students (26.4%). We found that 29.4% of students wanted to work at a home-visit nursing station in the future, but none wanted to work in one immediately after graduation. Home-visit nursing piqued the interest of 57.8% of students, and the practicum in home-visit nursing was most commonly scheduled in the fourth-year (62.7%). We found that the intention to work at home-visit nursing stations was related to the students’ interest in home-visit nursing, the semester the practicum is offered, the level of satisfaction with the practicum, and the interactions initiated by home-visit nurses to learn about the students.

〔Conclusions〕It was suggested that the experience in home-visit nursing practicum is important for nursing students’ intention to work at home-visit nursing stations. In order for nursing students to consider working at home-visit nursing stations, we believe that it is important that they receive information about internships and home-visit nursing as an entry-level job, as well as experience home-visit nursing practicum before beginning their job search and application procedures.
