In this paper, we propose an individual-difference model based on the models by Samejima(1969)and Andrich(1978a), that can be effectively used in the analysis of ordered categorical responses. In this model each individual has his own values of the thresholds of categories with proportional intervals. The method of maximum likelihood estimation for the parameters in the model, using Fisher's scoring method, is presented. The advantage of the model is that it is possible to estimate the thresholds' parameters even when an individual has no responses for some cate gories. Finally, an example is presented, in which the model provides productive findings.

This paper represents the possibility of pattern recognition by multi-level multi-valiate analytic method. We argue about the equality of information condense and the meaning of eigenvalues in amultivaliate analysis. Then validity of the method was exsamined in way of pattern recognition. 508 of 20 dot pattern(_??_, _??_, _??_, A, C, T)in 16×16 mesh were valuated meaning primitives as gravity, centrality, vertical and holizental view point. Next, each were condensed by factor analysis and associated by principal component analysis. The results showed high discrimination. It suggests that multi-level multi-valiate analytic method is an effective way of information condense on recognition.

To identify the life style pattern and its relation to physical, mental, and social health status, a questionnaire was applied to 1535 employees in 4 companies. A multi-variate analysis system, Hayashi's Quantification Method III, revealed that the life style could be classified into five types, i. e. clean, black, normal, healthy, and wild types. The maximum latent root obtained from the analysis system was 0.19, and then the second one was 0.14. Based on sample score obtained by each subject, individual's life style was also classified to five types. According to ridit analysis, people classified as health type or wild type had a significantly high health status. On the other hand, people who were as black type or clean type indicated a bad health status.
