We consider the problem of discriminating some multiple stationary time series observations into one of two mutually exclusive and exhausitive populations. A discriminant procedure is constructed on the Fourier transformed data as that of“zero mean difference”in ordinary multivariate analysis. Performances of the procedure are discussed based on the probabilities of misdiscrimination for which three approximate formula are investigated, and on a measure of performance which is also derived from J-divergence. Finally, we illustrate the procedure using two artificial time series data on autoregressive model and give some suggestions for its applications.
A new method is proposed to estimate multi-attribute utility functions based upon t he law of comparative judgements. The method was applied to analyze commuter route choice problems. Attitude surveys about commuter preferences for cornmuting conditions were carried out to test the validity of the method. The results show that the method yields reasonable parameter values and good fittness to the observed data. The method developed in this paper is very ueful for transportation planning, and can be applied to other fields, especially to behavior scinece.
This review covers metric and nonmetric multidimensional scaling(MDS)studies. Topics reviewed include metric vs. nonmetric methods, similarities, distances and the Minkowski power metrics, distance vs. content methods, the additive constant problem in the2-way and the3-way MDS, computational problems(gradient vs. rank image methods, the alternating least squares method, the N-way Eckart-Young decomposition, maximum likelihood, convex function analysis, continuous transformation, lincar programming), computer programs, individual difference scaling of similarity and preference data(the3-way scaling and factor analysis, the unfolding vs. vector models), Monte Carlo studies, incmplete designs, interactive scaling, integrated approaches, books on MDS, and a quantitative look at main contributors to the MDS literature. Because of the limited space, applications of MDS are not reviewed, and an extensive bibliography on MDS had to be deleted from(2).
