This thesis proposes a method to express the flow of movement by pedestrians who encounter and maneuver around wheelchairs. The thesis describes the behavior of avoiding interference and trying to maintain distance from other pedestrians based on the concept of personal space.
The methodology proposed in this thesis reproduces the characteristics of the flow of pedestrian movement, which is known, and allows us to predict such movement under more complicated circumstances at the same time.

This study proposes a transit assignment model for a frequency-based transit network, taking into account not only the expected travel time but also travel time reliability as passengers' route choice criteria. The uncertainty of travel time is derived from the variation of waiting time due to the service frequency and the risk of failing to board the first train by the congestion. Passengers are assumed to choose the path of the minimum generalised cost, which is the weighted value of the expected travel time and the measure of travel time reliability. The model is formulated as a fixed point problem. The efficiency of the proposed model is demonstrated with a simple hypothetical network.

This study analyzes the process that attitude of land owners changed from negative to positive during Isawa dam construction project. In the analysis, the flow of negotiation was confirmed by articles of news paper. After that, interview with administrative authorities and land owners were conducted respectively. Additionally, questionnaire survey to the land owners was conducted, too. As the result, the following findings were obtained. 1) Land owners had formed negative attitude to the project, based on negative emotion and distrust that they had had before negotiation. 2) Plenty release of information and sincere manner of the authority changed the owner from being negative to being positive. 3) Perception of fair process encourages people to have concern with regional planning more. 4) It is suggested that fair process can be a critical key in a real conflict.

We conducted scenario-based experiments of NIMBY problem in which authority explained residents about the procedure to decide a landfill site from among the candidate sites in their community. We hypothesized that perceived fairness of the decision making procedure enhanced trust for authority's intention to implement the policy for residents' interest more than trust for authority's ability to do it, and that the degree of authority's discretion to choose the procedure had a moderating effect on the relationship between procedural fairness and trust for authority's intention. Findings of three experiments support our hypothesis. Participants in high procedural fair condition had more trust for authority's intention than in low fair condition. Moreover, results also showed in high discretion condition in which authority had power to choose the specific procedure, procedural fairness enhanced trust for authority's intention more that in low discretion condition.

In this study focused on the opportune time, kind of information, and personal attribute, a web-based survey was conducted for the purpose of acquiring basic knowledge which contributes to promotion of Car Sharing. Respondents were gathered from 51 cities in Japan. In order to comprehensive the effects of communication at the proper time and provision information, each respondent was given several situation, on the other hand among respondents information was provided in different ways. Finally, we found out that it might be the best to communicate with people when people want a vehicle moderately such as increasing another one.

There are many places of scenic beauty and Japanese gardens that were originally villas of the Heian period at the base of mountains in Kyoto. In this paper, we discussed spatial characteristics of the villas, especially focusing on the functions of the topographic formation around them. As a result, it is clarified that 1) Most of the villas were surrounded by mountain, 2) the surrounding landform makes enclosed spaces around villas, 3) villas acquired both a prospect and an enclosure. And we categorized spatial characteristics of this topographic enclosure into 4 types according to their topographic conditions and spatial scales, and characteristics of the enclosure. These enclosed spaces around villas clustered in the outskirts of Heian-kyo.

Although the compact city concept is the promising strategy aimed to improve sustainability of urban developments, most of the local civil servant planners do not admit this fact. In this study it was tried to change their attitudes by giving one-shot lecture (OL) that provided subjective information about compact city. Analysis were performed in order to investigate 1) present state of attitudes, 2) change of attitudes, 3) factors that influence on attitude formation and 4) obstacles to realize compact city. Results showed that 1) OL is effective as a tool to rise awareness, 2) beside OL, knowledge and related experiences are also important factors for attitude formation, 3) institutional problems are not essential and 4) most of obstacles could be overcome by communication and learning.

The questionnaire was given to a random sample of about 3100 people living along the Arakawa drain canal, the Edo River, and the coast of Tokyo Bay. The attitudes of residents living in each area are characterized by the obtained answers form the residents. Also, the research areas are classified by using a cluster analysis on the basis of the attitude of residents, and the characteristics of the classified areas are shown. Furthermore, the future problem of disaster prevention measure on flood hazards is pointed out.

Based on the enforcement of the Landscape Act, the cities of Fukuoka and Kagoshima have decided to revise the landscape ordinance or guideline that they already have and make their landscape master plans stipulated by the Landscape Act. To make this endeavor practical it is necessary to assess the effectiveness of the old ordinance. Thus, a colorimetry was conducted on the color of buildings in both cities. As a result, the regulation of the chroma for Fukuoka was found to be quite effective. It is also clear that the colors of buildings of the two cities are distinctively different because of their meteorological conditions.

Inflection of the three-dimensional information is promoted by CALS/EC. In this study, we try that we let three-dimensional CAD link OHPASS which is a road optimal alignment search program. We handle a Control Point by a road optimal alignment search program by GA with the three-dimensional topography provided through 3-D CAD from extended Digital Mapping data. We took the result in 3-D CAD and tried that we let the 3-D model that we made link VR. By VR, we can expect scene evaluation at the time of the road linear plan and that road structure evaluation, the consensus building and a briefing session can use it effectively.
