Aeration-tube-tape destratification systems are recently applied in several dam reservoirs as measures to algal bloom. In this paper, we examined the effects of destratification systems and proposed a way to evaluate proper installation of the system. Filed measurements were conducted on water quality changes in a reservoir where destratification systems had been equipped. The effects of the systems are discussed from the results of the measurements. A proper amount of air flow rate and an installation number of aeration-tube were examined for the reservoir.

The thermometry using the optical fiber has widely been applied in the field of civil engineering and architecture. In the meantime, it has the problem of receiving damage such as the rupture, because optical fiber is fragile for impacts, etc., when it was embedded in the concrete. Then, the thermo sensor covered the circumference of optical fiber with iron wire to make the improvement for being hard to be cut is developed. In this study, for the purpose of having a grasp of the behavior of the temperature in concrete dams under construction by using this optical fiber thermometer, laboratory tests were carried out to confirm that measurement accuracy of this optical fiber thermometer was equal to that of the conventional temperature sensor (thermocouple) and in a concrete arch dam under construction, the measurement for comparing the optical fiber thermometer with the thermocouple was carried out to evaluate the performance of temperature perception of this optical fiber thermometer.

When we construct an embankment such as a rock-fill dam, we must examine “the permeability of materials” regularly and control quality. “The permeability of materials” that is one of the most important management items can be calculated by the field permeability test. However, it is difficult to check results speedily, because the field permeability test needs long time, great labor and complex analysis of data. We developed an automatic control system of field permeability test (named Taira-No-Mondo) that can control measurement and analyze data and that can output the test result by a reporting form.

In order to examine a river bed evolution by supplying the soils which flow into a reservoir to the down-stream river, it is necessary to grasp the grain size distribution for a coarse fraction of the soils. We investigated the grain size distribution of the soils deposited on some check dams. Consequently, we found a way to infer the grain size distribution using the geographical characteristic of a dam basin.
