Existing design strength of concrete for dams prescribed in the design code and the design standard is analyzed and re-considered theoretically. New idea of determining design strength of concrete for dams is proposed.
Water pressure is important load for the stability of embankment dams and their foundations. Pore water pressure is the form of water pressure in the bodies of embankment dams and their foundation. The theory of pore water pressure is re-considered in strict theory and the effect of pore water on the stability of embankment dams and their foundation is treated.
The slip circle method is commonly used in the stability analysis of embankment dams, earth embankments and natural slopes. The principal theory of the slip circle method is not understood precisely and is often misused in the practice field. The theory of the slip circle method is reviewed strictly and its precise usage is proposed in this paper.
