Kansei Engineering is defined as a translating technology of consumer's feeling and image (Kansei) to design domain and Fudo Engineering as an application of local culture implemented in civil construction. Dam construction project aims to prevent water hazard and to utilize water for multipurpose, while it will be kept for long time to be harmonized with local culture and be proud of in local society. Civil structures constructed from now should be designed considering people's human sense and desire. In this article, we attempt to apply Kansei Engineering to construct basic design databases for beautiful design of civil construction.

Laboratory test on Fracture Direction Controlled (FDC) grouting was conducted using specimens interbedded with sand (permeable) layers, and the distribution of grouted veins was observed to analyze the effect of the existence of sand layers on the direction of grouted veins formed. Grouted veins could be formed in the intended direction in sand layers as well as impermeable layers. In addition, surrounding area of grouted veins in sand layers was permeated with cement slurry.

The elevator is generally used as transportation facility for the maintenance operation of the dam. But, the elevator is not fit to use under the peculiar environment of the dam gallery. Recently, Monitoring monorail has been adopted as support or a substitute of the elevator. This paper describes the basic specification and notice about design of Monitoring monorail for the dam gallery.

On grouting of dams constructed on soft rocks, which have rather low permeability and low tensile strength, grout slurries of high penetration under low injection pressure are essential. Therefore such a technique is required using grout material of low viscosity and stable dispersion. The authors have developed a new material with high penetration by using silica fume i.e. ultrafine merterial of amorphous silica and slaked lime which is originally composed of fine grains and has long use. In this paper, characteristics of new injection method are presented. The results of injection test on model found as well as its application to scoriaceous sandstone beds and alternating beds of sandstone and mudstone are presented.

Regarding the execution of dam by the RCD construction method, on the occasion of the execution near the top of dam where the construction vehicles like dump truck are not able to run, the fixed cable-crane as the concrete transportation facility has the problem that it is not able to move at right angle to dam axis. At the construction sit of Chiya dam in Qkayama Pref., “Traveling Slide Hopper” has been developed to resolve that problem, and the execution has been completed safely. In this paper, authors report the details of “Traveling Slide Hopper” and the summary of the execution by it.
