On the embankment of core material at the Rockfill dam, in case that it is difficult near the damsite to obtain the core material which has the good character, core materials has been improved. Here I have investigated and analyzed about the improvement method of core materials of rockfill dams which has been ever constructed. As a result, I've recognized that the mixing character of the blended materials was affected by the difference between the physical characteristics of water content, grading, and plasticity of the fine grained materials and coarse grained materials. And it is clear that, in order to obtain the good blending condition, the agitation way depends on the physical characteristics. Moreover, I've reffered to the quick quality control way to prevent from the quality reduction with accompanied by the bad mixing materials.

From an environmental of dam construction it is desirable to utilize Positively some aggregates which are rejected because of qualitative poorness up to this time. In this paper, the authors introduced a new point of view on re-evaluation of some aggregates whose physical properties has been regarded unsuitable for RCD concrete. The authors clarified in this paper that “modified crushing rare” based on plain test can indicate the strength of aggregates and its applicability for RCD concrete.

There is a problem in the management of the Yabakei dam reservoir that the eutrophic phenomena as blue-green algae bloom has been advancing. In order to control the increase of blue-green algae, the aeration equipment has been set up at March 1995. Then, we carried out field tests in 1995 and 1996 to get data for analyzing the effectiveness of the aeration and planning the effective driving way. The field tests confirmed that the thermocline was lowered to the expected position by this aeration system. It was also confirmed that the amount of blue-green algae reduced, and the specific constitution of algae changed by the aeration, comparing to the years when the aeration was not implemented. We will continue the researches to confirm the effectiveness of the aeration to prevent excessive algae growth.

A series of shaking table experiments was performed to investigate hydrodynamic pressure inside narrow cavities like cracks in concrete gravity dams. In the experiment, the cavities surrounded with rigid plates were rectangular in shape, and had three different opening widths. Hydrodynamic pressure sensors were used to measure hydrodynamic pressure at several points along the cavities. Input table motions were sinusoidal with their frequencies and amplitudes changed variously. As far as the present experiment was concerned, hydrodynamic pressure inside cavities showed an almost linear increase with the distance along the cavity. The increment of hydrodynamic pressure along the cavity was found to depend on factors such as acceleration, frequency and cavity opening. In addition, phase difference was observed between hydrodynamic pressures at several points inside the cavity.
