In this paper, we have a discussion regarding a context change in zone design which orientates value adding, taking into account the expansion of the concept of space, based on the ZTCA design model which is one of the zone design models. Regarding the expansion of the concept of space, taking it from both spacial expansion and spacial reduction point of view, we will be discussing how to make use of the ZTCA design model considering the characteristic of each targeted space. Also, the zone is expanded to the world or even the whole earth, and the concept of zone design is evolved. At the same time, micro-level zone design will be applied. Based on it, characteristics of zone design are to be presented for spacial expansion including outer space and cyber space.

This study attempts to build a first step for considering performative effects of zone design study. Firstly, studies on zone design are categorized into three groups: science of zone design, zone design science and science for zone design. Then, the possible performativity of each study group is characterized based on the three types of emergence mechanism of performativity discussed in the context of marketing studies: direct recommendation of decision making and behavior, creation of shared perception framework and construction of research dogma. Lastly, limitations of this study and future research directions are briefly discussed.

The subject of this studyʼs analysis is the katsuobushi (dried bonito) production industry in Makurazaki City, Kagoshima Prefecture. The analysis showed that the horizontal inter-organizational networks among katsuobushi manufacturers in Makurazaki were networks structure and mechanism with good information sharing and circularity. These networks have the ability to deal with uncertainty and the effect of reducing transaction costs as management resources for firms.

In recent years, university education has been required to foster not only specialized knowledge but also Competencies for Social Participation. In this paper, we propose a community-oriented education model for developing Competencies for Social Participation. However, in such an active learning method, it is important to maintain the independence of the students. Therefore, in order to complement the studentʼs independent learning, we propose the use of an online virtual environment to foster independent learning-oriented students. With the education model constructed in this paper, it is possible to expect that students will be able to act independently on their own initiative and practice effective regional cooperative education.

To identify the most crucial factor for taking a leading part in the global competition, the key industries are analyzed based on the market share and core capabilities. Semi-conductor manufacturers are gaining a lot of attention from many industries, because a Chinese catch-up has overwhelmed many leading countries. The essential element of transition of leading players in the major industries is explained by the dynamics of center–periphery relationships with hegemons in strategic space. It is demonstrated that the resource constrain of leading players gets into the revenge form success and hence replaces successive hegemonies by partners separated by sea.

This paper examines the effect of cross-border M&As conducted by Japanese firms on the growth of firms’ long-term profit. This paper divides Japanese public firms into two groups by whether these are aggressive for cross-border M&As or not and compares each groups’ means of growth rate of sales and profit from 1996-2016. In addition, this paper compares long-term profit in two firms which are similar in types of industries and scales of assets but differ in aggressiveness for cross-border M&As. Results from these comparisons show that aggressive firms increase their sales, profit and EBITDA more than reluctant firms in long-term, although these differences don’t appear in short term.
