Liquid holdup without gas flowing is determined for two different types and sizes of packings using water, and also "static holdup" on the packings is measured.
The results of the previous investigators concerning operating holdup in packed towers are compared and discussed.
The operating holdup, H, is generally correlated with the dimensionless groups as shown in Fig. 5-Fig. 9. The experimental correlations between Y, H(d322)0.44 and modified Reynolds numder are obtained for each packing.
Using the characteristic constant of packing, (a·d), the following formulae are developed to predict the holdup of any liquid on the common types of pakings without any experimental work.

We made some special cyclones which were considered to be improved types, and compared these characteristics with those of a normal cyclone by many experiments.
"Van Tongeren" type (No. 8-VI), which is an amended No. 8-I type, is not effective.
"Parent and Child" type (No. 8-VII), which has one or two small cyclones around the exit pipe of No. 8-I type, has not also better collection efficiency.
Helical top type (B) has lower prossure drop but lower collection efficiency contrary to expectation.
Circular inlet guide vane lattice type (C) has complicated construction but good characteristics.
Circular inlet space type (E) has higher pressure drop but the highest collection efficiency.
Tangential inlet normal type (D), which is similar to No. 8-I type, has simple construction, higher efficiency but the highest pressure drop.
Longer length of cylinder reduces pressure loss fairly and also collection efficiency slightly.
If the diameter of exit pipe is too small, it causes only higher pressure loss, and improves scarcely collection efficiency.
Effect of inserted length of exit pipe is delicate for collection efficiency, but it is generally adequate to insert it down to the inlet as usual.
Inlet vane reduces pressure loss but collection efficiency badly, and also larger dust port reduces collection efficiency slightly. Spiral exit is ineffective and innocuous. And some other devices are found not to be much promising.
With these results, the theory of a cyclone is discussed and referential data for design of a cyclone are obtained.

Relations between boiling point and liquid composition of three binary systems, methanol-water, acetone-water, and acetone-methanol, are measured at atmospheric pressure. The experimental data are shown in Fig. 1 and are tabulated in Tables 2 and 3. Using these data vapor-liquid equilibrium relations of the systems are calculated theoretically and are tabulated in Tables 4 and 5. Results are shown in Fig. 4 and are compared with the literature.
