Experimental research was performed for heated, jet, ex. hausting from the horizontal nozzle of rectangular cross-section. Interferograms of heated jets were photographed by Mach Zehnder Interferometer by the light from the monochromatic source.
We consider the pattern of the refractive index, which is symmetric about the jet axis, and in this case Abel's in tegral equation stands for the fringe shifts and the refrac. tive index.
By the approximate solution of the integral equation, the exact values of e refractive index on the Jet axis were obtained.
The distribution of density and the temperature on the jet axis were got from the refractive index As respects obtaining the temperature at many points on the nozzle axis simultaneously, the method by the fringe shifts could be found to be superior to measure directly by the thermistor probe.

The mechanism of solid liquid extraction was studied both sheoretically and experimentally not only in some model tystems consisting of porous plates, a single solute and a solvent, but also in a practical case using sugar beet. The effective diffusivities inside the model plates and pretreated sugar beet pellets were detetmined through extraction tests using stirred vessels and a shaker Each observed diffusivity can be regarded as a constant at a certain temperature, and the dependence of the effective diffusivities on temperature was found to be the same as in the case of molecular diffusivity An equation for expressing the effluent concentranon in extraction of a solute from a packed bed of porous plates was derived and the effluent concentrations were numerically calculated The obstruction ratio of extraction due to adherence of packed plates was experimentally det ermined and a method for correcting. the above solution was suggested The analytical relationship between the concentration and time was found to agree well with the experimental results of packed beds of the model plates as we as the sugar beet pellest This indicates that it Will be possible to handle theoretically solid liquid extraction from porous plates in a column.

Since the Parallel Pore Model involves the tortuosity which can not be estimated theoretically, the use of the model repuires an exnerimental determmation of the tarsusity for each porous medium The objective of the present study is to interpret the tortuosity by dividing it into two conceivable factors;(1) convergence factor and (2) tortuosay factor, and to propose a method for Predicting the effective diffusivities as a function of the physical properties of porous media.
The convergence factor which represents the contribution of convergence and divergence of pore radii to the effective diffusivity was evaluated for two models, Monodisperse and Bidisperse Model, by using pore-size distrbution data of porous media The tortuosity factor which represents the effect of the geomesrical tortuosity of pore path on the effective diffusivity was correlated with the poresity of porous medium as to proposed three models by means of Monte Carlo simulation in which is structure of the porous medium was expressed as a three dimensional matrix consisting of 0 (solid) and 1 (pore) and toe avarage pore path length was calculated.
The model in which the above two factors are taken into consideration was found to agree well with the experimental data in liquid solid system, which weic etlle as particle beds of glass and soils and porous solids, as well as available data in gas-solid system.

Frontal chromatographic method was used to measure adsorption equilibrium constant, axial dispersion coefficient sand intraparticle diffusion cefficientfor ethane on various porous catalyst_naaterials at atmospheric pressure and at temperature range from -50 to +50°C Then, approxi mate solution for breakthrough curves obtained by Bab cock and coworkers was effectively applied to analyze chromatographic curves.
The intrapaticle diffusion coefficients for ethane on molecular sieves 5 A and 13 X obtained, were compared and found approximately agreed with those predicted by parallel pore model, and macro-pore volume diffusion plays a signi ficant role in these systems In the cases of activated carbon and silica alumina catalyst, however, surface migration effect was found remarkable In these systems surface diffusivities were determined

In case of pinch point beeing near the feed plate in a continuous distillation column, equations were obtained to calculate the composition of the feed plate at the condition of the minimum reflux ratio by applying a new q-value defined by that composition which satisfied the heat balance of the feed plate.
It was shown by examples that the composition of the feed plate gave the minimum number of plates and the optimum number of the feed plate when the compositions of top and bottom products were specified as a design condition

The complete heat recovery by complex heat exchanger system is the tendency of modern large wale plant This paper discusses the method to find out optimal system pa ttern of such heat exchanger system when the various de mands for heating and cooling are known within a probe ss The criteria for optimality is the cost for heat transfer area and external utility
Introducing various new concepts, the problem was for mutated as that of calculus of variation, and applying the maximum principle reveral important theorems were derived on the optimal heat exchanger system, use of which enables to easily construct optimal systems
