    A design procedure for the transient control of a Diesel engine air-pass system is proposed and the feature of the control system is investigated based on the simulation and the experimental results. The design method enables to obtain a nonlinear feedback law via Explicit MPC (model predictive control) and, further, derive a series of interpolated control laws which is applicable to the mode transient control. For the controlled system we focused here, sufficient conditions on the stability and the positively invariance of state region are clarified and applied to evaluate the feature of the resulting control law.

    The wheeled inverted pendulum cannot balance without the control, and it is important to save motion in a control range. On the other hand, there is a scene which demand using the full acceleration and deceleration performance for collision avoidance. In this paper, we developed a new motion planning technique of wheeled inverted pendulum using full performance from all attitudes under hardware constraints. The development technique has two characteristics. (1) The plan is controlled by a liner combination of zeroth, ..., fourth differential of parameter which based on the motion equation of the wheeled inverted pendulum system. (2) We express the arbitrary attitude of the wheeled inverted pendulum and hardware constraints on a phase plane which has an angular rate of body and an angle of body. And we can calculate the motion plan on the plane. We confirmed that plan by this technique had no error to a simulation model.

    This paper proposes a driver assistance system with a dual control theoretic scheme, which tries to perform safety control of a vehicle as well as identification of the driver's cognitive state simultaneously. Suppose that a vehicle is going to deviate from the driving lane. When the system predicted that the vehicle's lane departure occurs in td seconds, the system implements a partial control (α%) as the control of the first stage to prevent the lane departure from occurring. The control of the first stage is powerful enough to keep the vehicle in the lane but not to bring the vehicle back to the center of the lane. If the driver does not implement himself/herself the remaining control within the time period of ti seconds, the system determines that the driver is in an off-normal cognitive state, and thus implements the remaining control (100-α%) as the control of the second stage. This paper shows a design of the dual control theoretic driver assistance with a steering torque control based on optimum control using a linear quadratic regulator, and validates the control model of the proposed system by a numerical simulation. This paper discusses the functions and characteristics of the safety control and the identification of the driver's cognitive state.

    Maintaining indoor condition is an important factor for controlling electric appliances in living space. Generally speaking, a sense of feeling indoor condition is variable between residents. The conventional methods were dealing with this by supposing general residential. This means the conventional methods cannot consider all the residents. This is not realistic when considering installation of the system into the real environment. Thus, in this study, the Bayes' estimation was utilized to analyze the amenity variability. As a result of analysis, the new index, satisfaction rating index, was proposed. To achieve this, the HEMS was constructed in the actual operating residence. As a result, the analysis was acquired from 14 people from 3 different residences. To confirm the availability of the proposed index, the home appliance control system utilizing satisfaction rating index was conducted. The proposed system was evaluated by the experiment in the actual operating residence. From the result, the evaluation showed the availability of the proposed system and satisfaction rating index.

    This paper proposes a design method of low-dimensional linear functional observers on the basis of a model reduction approach. This method can guarantee not only stability preservation but also an a priori estimation error bound for the observer approximation. Moreover, owing to the fact that this method can be applied to any functional observers, the method is compatible with the standard feedback gain determination methods, such as pole placement techniques. The efficiency of the proposed method is shown through a numerical example for electric power network systems.

    This paper describes a new cooling control model for steel plates in on-line accelerated cooling process. As a core of the plate temperature calculation of the cooling control model, a new formulation for the heat transfer coefficient in the transition boiling is presented. The developed cooling control model shows the effects of both the achievement of improved cooling uniformity and the accuracy improvement of the finish cooling temperature for steel plates.

    As a tool for simulating the variation of blood pressure of supine patients caused by acceleration and deceleration of the ambulance, we made a mathematical model for estimating the blood pressure variation by using the system identification technique. Prior to the modeling, to make a statistical analysis of the relationship between the foot-to-head acceleration and the blood pressure variation, we recorded the blood pressure for 15 healthy male subjects at the age of 21-24 years by exposing them to two different patterns of acceleration in foot-to-head direction with the tilt bed. It was found that the mean blood pressure, which was measured at the left finger tip put on the left side of the head, varied proportionally to the acceleration on average. Based on these experimental data, we constructed a probability model of the blood pressure variation. The parameter values of the model were determined optimally by the genetic algorithm so that two mean-squared-error values, which were calculated for each pattern of acceleration, were minimized in the sense of Pareto optimality. The validity of the constructed model was confirmed by the car experiment.
