This book is full of imaginative ways of examining the creative mind, in relation to Design practice, using the body's five senses as a starting point. This book is for anyone; it is easy to understand and allows the creative mind to be led by the expressiveness of form. We seek to nurture a design thinking that will lead to innovative problem solving in many kinds of situations. This book would plays a key role as a tool to spread this way of appreciating the 'essence' of design. 12 exercises such as "Auditory Imagination Space", in which, by listening to only the sound, they imagine the situation, or the image, are made to stimulate the senses, and nurture the creative mind. They are a way of mobilizing one's five senses into action.

This work is a shade for lighting fixture by assembling several polypropylene rectangular parts, which is currently patent-pending as of November 2014.
This patent will enable to assemble seven different shapes for lamp shade using only two part design. In addition, after disassembling, the parts are reusable for another shape. Second feature of the patent is its good cost performance. The part design leaves little offcuts and the parts can be stored as sheet, so that it is easy for stock management and requires small space for storage. Thirdly, it is unique for its simplicity of assembling. The person at the entry level can assemble as soon as ten minutes. All the seven shapes are assembled by attaching the rectangular parts into round shape, and pulling the rounded parts to the center from inner side using supplemental part.

The author is studying functional furniture developed by applying the link mechanism. A simple link mechanism example is a pipe folding chair, which uses a single link mechanism. More complicated folding can easily be developed by applying multiple link mechanisms that enable a variety of compact furniture to be built. This concept leads to the conclusion that a comfortable living environment can be created even in extremely confined spaces. Although this conclusion is based on a very practical application, the unusual opening and closing movements created by the link mechanism is also expressed visually here as a "dramatic effect."

As the technology of plant factory has been developed, it became possible to introduce agricultural elements into our lives, and plant factories have been increasingly installed in various facilities as well. However, most of these cases are just a compact plant factories. Therefore, we aimed to make them familiar and enrich the dining experience in restaurant, by design development. We have introduced our new product to an actual restaurant for experimental use and it was confirmed that this product has potential to produce delicious greens for special dishes.
We also made a comprehensive proposal that associated with cultivation method, business model and distribution system because it isn't possible to materialize our design development only by this product.

"Aoihana" is a house designed as a final home for an elderly couple. We designed the house to realize their wish to live in their own house without trouble by providing comfortable environment as they get older. We investigate the relationship between brain science, human engineering and psychology for elderly people.
The basic data obtained by the research prompted us to propose the following four concepts:
    1)harmonizing daylight with lighting environment.
    2) zone-izing of interior.
    3) humor-izing of function.
    4) producing of living space using materials and colors.
The purpose of "Aoihana" is to realize the concept of the living environment for elderly people to keep living for a longer time by the stimulating the sensitivity and improving the function and performance.

Japanese national land is 70% forest, and of that, 40% is planted forest on which Japanese cedar is 43% of what is planted. Most of this Japanese cedar is approaching its cutting cycle, and value-added use and application is sought for these trees.
This project uses Japanese cedar from Miyagi Prefecture, an affected area of the Great East Japan Earthquake, and develops furniture that can be used for medical facilities as well as elderlycare facilities in Miyagi Prefecture, taking advantage of the softness and lightness of Japanese cedar wood. The objective is to design furniture comfortable for elderly people, taking advantage of the softness and lightness of Japanese cedar.
Also, by using lumber from the earthquake-stricken area, domestic reforestation is sought through promotion of lumber used and local lumber industry restoration.

As a rule, however, you cannot masticate drugs, so you put water in your mouth to create the right conditions for deglutition. But many people end up drinking a lot of water without succeeding to swallow the drugs. They stay in your mouth or get stuck in the back of your throat. Many children dislike taking medication, because they find the taste unpleasant, have a hard time swallowing it, or are embarrassed about doing so in front of other people.
So how can we make it easier for them to take medication without undue physical and mental stress? We have teamed up with Morimoto-Pharma Co., Ltd., which develops and produces medical administration jelly, and conducted joint projects. Using a user-participation design methodology, based on repeated workshops and prototyping, we have distilled concrete insights from children's everyday lives and developed solutions.

The aim of this design is to develop E-learning system for selfstudy specialized for deaf students. The design that we suggest is "Contextual Subtitles". "Contextual Subtitles" is the subtitles that those indication positions were changed into to the situation. It is for reduce eyes movement and more comfortably learning.
Further we performed the evaluation experiment for this design. Although a difference was not recognized about the stress, the distance of eyes movement significantly decreased.
We confirmed that for deaf students, subtitles were the most important for understanding E-earning contents. We want to examine the coverage of this design into details in the future.

This is the design project for developing the local toy (carton pierre) handed down by the Aizu district for many years as new goods. This report describes three viewpoints of "design research", "design work", and "production".
By design research, while we observe the practicality and the trend of carton pierre, it has been decided that "a present-day young woman is cured" as design concept.
The design work was completed in the new way of thinking of dressing with wool without carrying out a painting, as a result of applying a trial-and-error method. The sheep which symbolizes 2015 was selected as a subject matter on account of sale.
Finally in the production after trial, "Fuwamoco Sheep" was commercialized as new carton pierre, while productivity are improved.

In 2002, wheelchair curling was introduced for the first time in Japan. Now many teams have been formed in Japan, particularly around Hokkaido and Nagano prefecture. Unfortunately, the delivery cue used via wheelchair curling is generally bought from foreign countries on the internet. Moreover, the teams are using almost the same cue as Paralympic athletes. In addition, the interest in wheelchair curling has decreased because it is difficult to use the cue. It is thought that the spread of wheelchair curling is hindered for this reason.
After discussion with wheelchair curling athletes, we produced many functional prototypes. We have been developing separate cues for beginners and for experts.

Due to the decline of domestic shipment of glass bottles in recent years, bottle manufacturers are obliged to operate in difficult situations. This is mainly caused by the widespread use of light-weight and unbreakable plastic bottles, such as PET bottles. However, as glass bottles are superior to plastic bottles in heat resistance and hygiene, demands for glass bottle containers will continue to exist in the future. This project has developed bottles that are easy to open even for women and the elderly with weak muscles by studying the "difficulty to open", which is a disadvantage of food bottles.
The development steps were as follows. First, food bottles were collected from the market to observe and subjectively evaluate the motion of opening the bottles to determine the characteristics of easy-to-open bottles. The motion observation also revealed that "easiness to hold" has much to do with "easiness to open". Next, based on the findings, six prototypes were made to be tested by monitors. In addition to subjective evaluation, easiness to apply force in opening was measured by electromyography. As a result, it was found that the bottle with a parallelogram cross section was the easiest. Finally, a questionnaire was conducted on the attractiveness of such bottle as a product and it was confirmed that the bottle earned a higher rating than current products.

In this paper, we propose a prototype of the video equipment used in scenes in which Smart House technology and the Internet of Things are applied. The proposed prototype employs a bio-like display, which is a set of these embedded display devices that move as if they are living objects. These displays collaborate and interact. They can subtly radiate information in the background and show ambient information, which is subconsciously perceived, or they can more intrusively engage with a user and conspicuously provide their information. In the bio-like display, three display devices are held by supporting arms that rotate by a motor. The relationship of the display devices is thereby implied with a lifelike motion. In sum, this proposed platform explores the interactions between humans and machines by using video information and lifelike motion.

With the advancement of IT technology in recent years, new technologies such as the e-learning system in surgical education, have been increasingly applied in the field of medical education. In addition, the on-the-job training with paper textbooks has made the surgeons more competent and proficient. Until now, the use of paper textbooks is still popular in the field of medical education. However, the paper textbooks only use the typical illustrations, surgery photos, surgical procedures of liver, and it takes a lot of time and feedback to bridge the gaps with the surgery practices. Therefore, it is necessary to actively use the e-books, which make the best advantage of the multi-media learning. In this study, a dynamic interactive textbook of surgery is being developed. It can be used to study surgery in a three-dimensional way, with a variety of materials included such as 3DCG models, videos, interactive image, and voices etc.

CAVScene was developed as a tool that researchers can use to observe learning and activities in child care. CAVScene is software that is installed in an iPad. The observer uses CAVScene to extract movies or still images of key scenes in the activities of children and child care providers, and to describe points that came to their attention as footnotes directly on the screen. After the observation, they can add detailed observings, and reflect together with the child care providers on the basis of simple editing. This is where the viewpoints of the observers and the child care providers are merged to gain a deeper understanding. In this report, we captured the mechanism of the observation of events on the basis of the functional characteristics of CAVScene. This includes the following three elements: 1) clarification of "extracting" and "positioning" from the entire event according the time flow of time, 2) looking at the relation between the entire event and parts of the event beyond time, and 3) understanding a meaning by using language and symbols.

Whether you like it or not, bottled mineral water becomes a part of the interior. But bottle designs in Japan lack this point of view. Their designs are noisy and unsophisticated.
This cannot be helped, because bottles have the role as advertisement. They have to stand out in the store for the shoppers to choose them.
We created a mineral water with no advertisement on the bottle, so that the bottle harmonizes with the interior.
We limited the sales channel to Amazon, so that the bottle did not need to have the role as advertisement like other mineral water in the store.
By appealing the bottle's design, we gained new customers. The design made mineral water a cool item to display in the room, and this product was taken up and shared by many media and SNS. A product with no advertisement, in fact was what consumers desired.

2012, I was manufactured citizen movie "Takahama Story" in Aichi Prefecture Takahama. This is a movie for the purpose of local activation. And this is due to officials and citizens Takahama all actors, extras, and volunteer staff. I'm a director and screenwriter of this movie. I was impressed by the passion of Takahama citizens. I made a story in the concept of "town hot Oni inhabited" and inspired by the onigawara of traditional industries. I have found a new value in the region in the eye. The strong growth through this production, people who had been involved in this production has changed certainly. We believe looking at this result, filmmaking, and is effective as a method for activating the region by re-discover the charm of the region, to foster the people.
