The stratigraphy and structures of the Neogene Uchimura and Bessho formations in the northern Fossa Magna were examined. As a result, it was confirmed that the Bessho Formation unconformably covers the Uchimura Formation locally at the northern margin of the Uchimura Dome. It is named the “Uchimura Unconformity”. The Uchimura unconformity is the result of upheaval and erosion of the Takeshi Mountains by plutonic intrusions during the middle Miocene in age. The unconformity was formed during planktonic foraminiferal zones N8-N9 (around 15.5-15.0 Ma). Unconformable phenomena were observed in various places in the central parts of the Honshu arc during this period. Therefore, the Uchimura unconformity is thought to be one of the important tectonic history in the Honshu arc.
