Plagiothecium latebricola Schimp., a small and rare pleurocarpous moss, is newly recorded from Nikko, central Honshu. This species was previously known from Hokkaido, northern Japan. Gemmae are documented in Japanese material for the first time. Illustrations and notes are provided.
Haplomitrium minutum discovered from Mt. Ainodake, South Japanese Alps, Central Japan is illustrated and its identification is discussed, together with a discussion of its phytogeography.
