A new moss species, Distichophyllum yakumontanum H. Akiyama & Matsui from Yakushima Isl., southern Kyushu, Japan, is described. The species is most closely related to D. catinifolium J. Froehl., but differs in having obovate to oblong-spatulate leaves with round to shortly mucronate apices and its unique habitat, that is, growing on tree trunks on the forest floor.

KOKE-SEARCH, a database search program package for literature relevant to Japanese bryophytes, is described. It includes some Perl 5.8 and Delphi 7.0J-based programs for MS Windows. Instructions for installation of the package and methods for searching the database are described.
