Objective: To survey the current state of contrast medium-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) examinations at dental university hospitals in Japan.
Methods: Questionnaires consisting of 30 items were used to determine the state of CECT examinations at dental university hospitals with regard to the inspection systems, the experiences of side effects and the ways of dealing with them. We sent questionnaires to all dental university hospitals (29 hospitals) in Japan by e-mail. The investigation period was from 6
th January, 2010, to 31
st January, 2010.
Results: Completed questionnaires were returned from all dental university hospitals. CECT examinations had been carried out at 27 dental university hospitals. Almost all of these hospitals (26 hospitals) reported that they had already taken appropriate countermeasures against problems like side effects of the contrast medium, although 12 dental university hospitals had experienced serious adverse events.
Conclusion: In the present study, the rate of return of the questionnaires was 100%. The results showed the present conditions of CECT examinations at dental university hospitals in Japan.
